Can you fix a Pressure Mounted STAIRGATE to a curved bannister????????

Need a stair gate and thought I would get a pressure mounted one. The woman in the Mothercare said that you would need a flat surface for both the pressure mounted AND the ones you screw in although the screw in one might work depending on how curved the curve is iykwim.

As I have a curved bannister does this mean there are no stair gates that fit.

ANyone successfully installed a pressure mounted or screw in one with a curved bannister.

Thanks

Really don't think so... but no-one has a clue by looks of things either

We have a curved bannister and curved top stair at the top of our flight of stairs and have mananged to sucessfully fix one of those retractable roller blind type stair gates. There is a gap that is big enough to post a few toys through but not a child.

\link{http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/CGIBIN/PRIAMLNK.CGI?CNO=1&MP=ITM%5EGIN200&CODE=ST01876&TYPE=P\retractable stiar gate} . If you shop around you could probably find one a bit cheaper.

Thanks guys. Have found one here \link{http://www.safetots.co.uk/ccp51/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?usr=51F1054404&rnd=9104007&rrc=N&affl=GOOGLEADWORDS&cip=86.130.209.17&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=bettacarewoodenautoclose&cat=Pressure+Fitting&catstr=HOME\stairgate} that says it's can be used on curved bannisters with a particular spindle. ANyone else had any experience?

I am interested in knowing as well as we bought a lindam "normal" one (pressure mounted) but just tried to fit it and no luck....It just "slips" away from the bannister. Now need to look at other options. Will check the link given here....

drosophila · 02/04/2006 20:22

That is really irritating SHHH. I saw the Lindham one in john lewis catelogue and it was attached to a curved bannister. Misleading or what?

Hoping someone can throw some light on this. There must be millions of curved bannisters.

Yeah I agree. Really annoying esp as we bought them 3 months ago waiting till the day we needed them....Nothing like being prepared.!!!

Oh well..must admit the one suggested on the link below does look like a good gate.

drosophila · 02/04/2006 20:49

Unless someone here tells us of something different I think I will order it also. Don't forget the Y spindle whatever that is.

I thought that!!..Yeah, ok I know what the y spindle is..very handy is that y spindle....Wink.

LucyJu · 02/04/2006 21:24

We succesfully used a pressure-mounted stairgate with rounded banisters. Needed a y spindle (had to order separately). Think it was a BabyDan stairgate.

WE ended up buying a Lindam dog gate that is a lot higher so the pressure things fit against the flat not curved bit of the bannister.

We havn't managed to sort out the top of the stairs though.
