Playstation 1 - instructions how to use ?

We have just inherited a Playstation1 as my nephew got the new model for Xmas. Luckily before we told ds1 we had got one we thought we'd try it out. Dh plugged it into the telly and did a lot of flicking about on stations but couldn't get it going. We tried it on our big TV and also on the small portable.
It didn't come with any instructions - so does anyone have some old instructions you no longer need or can briefly tell me what to do ?

Many thanks

Asked my DH and this is what he says:

You need to put in a game, unplug the ariel and leave ariel completely out for the minute, turn Playstation on, pick a spare channel and turn tv on that channel until u get a picture from the playstation.
Then plug ariel back into the socket on the playstation adaptor.
If this doesnt work let us know as then he can recommend something else!!

Does your TV have automatic tuning? Where you press a button and then it flicks through the channels? From what I remember you need to put a disc into the Playstation and let it run while the thing goes through the channels, until you come to the one showing the game - then you generally make that channel 6 on the TV (unless you have Sky there in which case you can make it 7 I suppose.)

Our big TV is Panasonic and it has 4 different settings (using the coloured buttons) - for VCR, DVD and 2 other things, probably camcorder and games machine - as well as needing to be on the right channel - it is a lot more complicated than it used to be. (We haven't got an instruction book unfortunately.) It should be simpler on your small portable. Good luck!

Well ladies, i thank you ! We got it going on the portable and he now knows what to do on the big TV. Many thanks.

By the way - any recommendations for games for a 5.5 year old boy. Have been looking on ebay as there are loads for sale quite cheap but not sure what to go for. I don't like guns/shooting so i guess that limits things a bit.

Well done for getting it going!

Toy Story is nice but may be a bit difficult. Kids' suggestions - Micro Machines - Crash Bandicoot 2 - maybe Lego?

I am glad it is working now.

Not really sure about games for a 5 year old as my son is only 16 months, but here are some suggestions: Does he like dancing? How about a dance mat? they do lots of dancing games (good excercise as well!!) Harry Potter game - apparently ok for 5, Disney have loads of games that must be ok - for instance Lilo and Stitch and Donal Duck and Winni the pooh collection, Shrek Treasure Hunt. What tv programme does he like? I bet there will be a game to go with it!!There are everything from Sesame Street to Rug Rats (and that blue bear).
Anyway have fun!
