Haven't got room for a full-size bed and a cot in our second bedroom so am thinking this might be a good idea until we move (not likely to be till at leat next year). We have a full-size bed in there at the moment, but it's under the window and next to the radiator, so not possible for DS1 to sleep in it - there's a big gap between the wall and the head end because of the radiator.

Hi Hunker! (me again!)

We have the one on the right hand side. I like it and think it's good if you're short on space. However, the only thing I don't like the slats for the support. It may have been unfortunate on our one, but as I leant across to shut DS's curtains, I went through one! It had a knot in the wood. It's happened again when DS was on it. They're not exactly expensive to replace, so it's not a problem, just annoying!
The matress isn't for me, but DS1 sleeps every night on it and sleeps well, he loves his big boys bed so I'm not complaining!
Oh and it's lower than a regular single bed to the ground just incase!I'm glad we brought it, I think it will serve us well for both DS's.

We've got the Vikare (one on the left), now on second child, soon to be passed on to third! I like it because when both ends are in the "up" position and the guard rail is on it's quite snug so good when making the transition from cot to bed. Because you can lower both ends down it would actually last until the child is quite tall

We got a mothercar extendable bed which looks the same. It is great, we moved it into a single bed when Ds changed room but he still only using the small bit..lol We will buy another when DD needs one as her room is tiny.

We've got the Vikare one on the left - it's been great, but would echo the thing about the slats - DD did have a bit of a jump on hers once, and has broken one of them. It seems to work fine without replacing it, but it's a bit annoying.

No chance you could just buy a headboard for the existing full-size bed is there? Mind you, it's probably cheaper to buy an Ikea bed than a new headboardSmile.

hunkermunker · 30/03/2006 13:07

No, full-size bed already has a headboard (it's a cheap, low Ikea bed anyway!) - it's a gap at the side of the bed - it's lenghthwise along the radiator (also issues with burning his legs on it - bed definitely not staying there for him to sleep in!).

The big bed would be fine for him to sleep in, but it's just not feasible with the cot in the room.

Won't be for a little while yet, but will probably get DS1 excited about sleeping in his big bed before DS2 needs to go in the big cot.

Thanks though - very helpful - ikwym about the slats, having had Ikea beds before!

Couldn't see an extendable bed in Mothercare catalogue - will have another look online.

we had the one on the left for years

it survived 2 very boisterous children but my only downside is that I found the wooden ends (the corners) were sharp. When they were up, ds used to bash his head on them (if he got up to look for a toy and then went to lie down again) and when we flattened them down, he used to bang his head on the wooden frame all the time (but then we just went and got a proper single bed).

There is one on the for sale boards, not sure if it has been sold yet.
