Sorry boring thread.

My trusted pull along hoover is a about to die i fear.

Have looked at various differnt ones but still don't ahve a clue which to get - i have however decided to get a upright.

Our house is carpeted - lino and original wooden flooring so need something suitable for all

We've been looking at dysons - r they worth there money? it seems a huge amount to pay but would pay if it was realy worth it.

Would be intersed to know what other people have

many thanks and happy new year.

We have a Dyson root8 cyclone upright thingy. It is brilliant ! It will pick up anything, we also have a selection of floor types (carpet, laminate & ceramic tiles) and it has no probs with any of them. The only real downside is that it is quite heavy to carry upstairs.

Happy New Year FD

FD have had my dyson for 8 years and love it dearly it's an old yellow and grey upright, the handle did fall off so i bought one of their pull alongs last year but not very impressed managed to stick handle back on old one and now treat it with TLC.

clairabelle · 01/01/2004 10:57

Forgot to add works on all my floors, wooden floors, tiles and carpet.

Davrosthesnowman · 01/01/2004 11:05

There's been threads on Dysons before. I actually put mine in the dustbin because I got so fed up with it. The whole filters thing was a pain and it kept stopping. I also hated the bagless system which is just filthy to empty. (its not the first bagless hoover eitiher, I had a Jap one years ago). I went back to customer svs and, after a lot of toing and froing got some satisfaction but they fobbed me off after that as it was out of warranty even though I had the same problems. My Henry, which I got 2nd hand for £20, is brilliant. Much better than the Dyson, much more powerful suck. The other model I keep hearing about is Sebo (something like that).

WSM · 01/01/2004 11:08

The one we've got, the root8 one has an improved emptying system. We also had an older one and found it was horrible to empty.

The newer ones have a switch to release the cylinder from the frame and then you can take it to a bin, release the locking catch and the bottom flaps open and empties straight over the bin, no probs.

clairabelle · 01/01/2004 11:09

filters- think i put a new one in 1997, still the same one and still works like a dream. Dh empties it! Sorry couldn't resist defending them

codswallop · 01/01/2004 11:16

Sebo very easy to replace bag - no fiddling around like you do wiht the Dyson

Lisa78 · 01/01/2004 12:54

love my dyson - had it since 2000 and never replaced the filters yet; don't have any problems emptying it and its usually full of dog hairs! One of the attachments did break though last year, but easily replaced and not expensive - oh and its a funky green and purple!

PamT · 01/01/2004 14:23

I got a lime/silver DC04 last summer after the handle broke on my ancient hoover. The suction is very good but I find the head a bit bigger than my old one so it doesn't fit in as many places as the old vac used to and I need to use the tools more. Although the tools are on board, you still need to unfasten the handle, extend the hose and fasten an attachment on the end which is just as much a pain as attaching the separate tools on the Hoover. I seem to need to empty it much more often than I ever changed the Hoover bag but I don't know if this is because it picks more dirt up. This model is currently selling at £130-£150 but it doesn't have a hard floor option so it wouldn't suit your situation.

SHIREENSMOM · 01/01/2004 14:54

they are selling a dyson cyclone hover yhingy in saisburys at the mo for £150 knocked down from £250 i have one and its brill

roam · 01/01/2004 16:01

I's with davrosthesnowman on this one Hate my dyson no stronger than my previous ordinary £70 upright and now I have all that mess everytime I hoover so I end up having to re-hoover after emptying the %@!!! thing!

Carolann · 01/01/2004 17:25

I hated my dyson and gave it away for one nights baby sitting. The suction was rubbish. I always said there was no loss of suction because it never had any suction to loose! I have a miele cat and dog. Its brill and the bags close so nothing escapes when you empty it. The dyson rubbish went everywhere. Mum changed her dyson for a Henry. She loves her Henry and I think gave her dyson to the dustbin men

Jollymum · 02/01/2004 09:15

I know it'S REALLY SAD, BUT JUST BEFORE XMAS I GOT A DIRT DEVIL(BIT LIKE ONE OF THOSE HENRYS). IT COST £20 FROM ARGOS AND IT'S THE BEST ONE I EVER HAD! IT'S REALLY LIGHT WHICH MAKES VACCING REALLY QUICK AND ALTHOUGH THE SUCTIONS NOT BRILLIANT, IT DOES FOR ME!(SORRY, THAT SOUNDS RUDE!!)

anto · 02/01/2004 20:57

I did a vacuum cleaners thread early last year (2003). General consensus was Miele and I bought one and it's been great! Would recommend to anyone. We have wooden floors, sisal matting, carpet & amtico in our house & it works brilliantly on all of them. Can't remember which model it was but could have a look if you're interested...

Slinky · 02/01/2004 21:03

I have had 3 Dysons - all of which ended up in the bin - they were c*! Also 2 friends have binned theirs - versions range from 1997 up until 2003. I also had carpets fitted in 2 downstairs rooms in the last 6 months - both companies recommended NOT to use a Dyson - the suction is too powerful (apparently!) for carpets and it ruins them.

My electrician chap hates them with a passion and recommended Miele - thinks AEG and Miele are the best for everything. Although my kitchen is fitted with AEG, I plumped for a Hoover Powerpoint which has been fab and at a fraction of the price of the Rip-off Dysons.

Bozza · 02/01/2004 21:12

Bought a Dyson DC04 Absolute off Ebay for about £80 delivered. OK dodgy because no comeback but its been great. Better suction than previous Electrolux bagless, quieter and gets nearer to edge than previous supposedly "edge-to-edge" model. We have mixed floors also.

Would definitely recommend looking at Anto's other thread. Lots of info/opinions on there.

donnie · 02/01/2004 21:58

our miele cat and dog does the bizz with both wooden and carpeted floors.I recommend it!

helenmc · 03/01/2004 17:11

we had a dyson, and now we've got a Miele like Donnie, and the Miele is wonderful!! But the dustbags /filters are expensive.

Cha · 03/01/2004 21:53

We have a Bosch Pro Pets 1800w which is fab. It is small and light but sucks like a demon. Gets up all the shaggy dog hairs plus general tides of filth that we seem to generate with ease. Bags are a bore to get hold of - until I found I could order them direct from Bosch. Number on their website.
We also bought a Samsung 2000W pet hair vacuum before - it was rubbish, got blocked all the time and was like carting a dead horse round the house. We traded it in for the Bosch. From what I've heard, Dyson's look great and that's about it.

fairydust · 06/01/2004 18:30

thank you - for all your help -

we finally decided to get a dyson dc08 pull along
so far it is brill thanks for all your advice
