We have only had ours (ariston) 2 years - well not quite that even - and for the second time in 6 months the catch on the door had come out of alignment, necessitating me to call up to get someone to mend it.

I think last time it was call out charge and nothing else, and i forgot to ask the people this time how much it will be when they come (need to ring back), but say it's a £50 call out, and that is around what i paid last time, if it happens again do i bother getting it done or get another one which will hopefully be less hassle??

Just wondering about the endless paying out. sigh

Nothing. I get dh to fix it, such a handy man to have around!!! (And he's not a plumber, or electrician)

alittlebitshy · 25/03/2006 20:08

grr, that's just boasting Envy. why can't vicars get trained in the essentials of plumbing?!

Lol!! He's very ill as well, so I actually try and stop him doing this stuff. We could do a swap, could probably use a vicar!

I don't bother getting washing machines fixed. I had a new one delivered last week and it only cost me £200 so why spend a fortune getting one repaird when you will have to buy a new one eventually.

LIZS · 25/03/2006 21:15

Spent £130 last December repairing our 15 yr old Zanussi ! Element and pump had both gone. Call out was about £40/50 including first 20 minutes labour. If it is just the door catch then money well spent but surely it should last more than 6 months.

SleepySuzy · 25/03/2006 21:17

ONLY £200! I wish I could use both those words together - lol!

we don't have one in scotland. it's all NHS24 up here.

i've had quick callbacks, but then, their service has probably improved since they were formally fined after the entirely preventable deaths of two people - a 17-year-old girl w/meningitis, and a 31-year-old father w/septaecemia.

We spent £70 repairing our last washing machine only for it to develop a new problem a few weeks later, decided to ditch it.

splashed out on a Miele and SEVEN years later it has never once been repaired.
