New carseat just launched - Maxi Cosi Tobi - Anyone tried one ?

Even better than the Priori XP ? The Tobi has some mechanism to automatically move the straps out of the way to ease insertion and subsequent restraint of the child, and also has some 'belt tension is correct' type of indicator.

(Looky \link{http://www.maxi-cosi.nl/html/uk/index.html\here} - click seats / Tobi. Foul olours though).

Sounds quite clever and useful IMHO. Just wondered if anyone had tried one yet ?

I will do, Tipex. Still can't see what's wrong with my moderne car seat tastes LOL.

Oooh, \link{http://www.britax-roemer.de/produkte.php?sprache=en&seite=details&id=21\looky here} - German design means the seat can pivot forward from the frame to allow you to more easily install the seat... (click on the 'Belt Tensioning' pdf).... that's also fairly clever. I wonder if they do one in exotic pink ?

Thanks, lockets. Just looked. I think belt tensioning is a good thing. The Iseos also has expanding side ear thingies to give more room for jackets etc. which is possibly a good idea.

Can't find any UK shops with a Tobi in stock, but we've probably got several weeks / months to go anyway, so I can wait till someone has the hideous one we're after, LOL.

Is it safe in your car though?

Please check that which ever carseat you like fits your car safely

Please........................

hub2dee · 27/03/2006 12:36

Have done Kanga, went to John Lewis and tried the Britax Si and the Priori XP. Both were very good fits. The new Tobi will likely have the same 'universal' seat base as the Priori, but of course, we will check first !

LOL. Drove your XC90 btw... the diesel engined one. Thought the interior and styling very good but the sat nav screen position a bit odd (although I am sure the positioning cuts glare). Didn't really like the feel on the road though. It was very smooth but not quite enough feedback through the steering wheel for my liking, and a tad less swift than some of the other cars we tried. Great view of the road though and nice body IMHO.

We bought a Merc E class estate in the end. Year 2000, amazing spec, and a decent price (under 11 grand). I should start a thread as we tried loads of cars and it might help other choose what's right for them.

Blimey hub2dee you're quick off the mark! I only saw this in the flesh for the first time at the Nursery trade show in Harrogate yesterday.

The fitting and seat belt routing is completely different to anything else out there (also very impressive). It does also have tensioners to make the seatbelt very tight.

The harness can be loosened with one hand, and the traffic light indicator for the correct tension is brilliant and dead easy to use. The harness also has its own inertia reel thingy for a better fit and it tightens up on impact. The shoulder straps have some springy pads which hold them open which is also quite handy (sorry, thats a crap description but am rubbish with technical stuff).

Dorel reckon they will be available mid May but their track record for delivering new products on time is appalling. Big stores like John Lewis will probably have them in first though, check with them.

hub2dee · 27/03/2006 20:17

LOL, teaandcake, I phoned Dorel today and they mentioned 'The' show so I guessed a biggy was on at the mo. They said stocks were being dispatched 'around now' and that John Lewis and Halfords might be amongst the first, with 'some' Mothercare taking them too. Within the next month we should have them in the big stores I guess.

Did you find the seat really held the belt bits out the way ? (ie. does it really do what it says on the can ?) It is always a pain digging down the back of the baby to withdraw the strap !

The traffic light tensioner also looked like a good idea - I always just see if a finger fits under the strap to make sure dd can wriggle / expand Smile a bit, but an indicator (if it works, and takes into account clothes etc. etc. would be good.

Well, the springy harness thing certainly looked impressive and seemed to do the trick but it was demonstrated to us without a child!

I guess we'll have to wait and see. At least they are addessing this problem though.

hub2dee · 30/03/2006 10:06

OK. I'll have a good look when they hit the shops. I noticed several other designs have little clips on the side you can hook buckles over but this retraction malarkey sounded neat. Thanks T&C

Has anyone tried the Concord Trimax?
\link{http://www.concord.de\here}
but again, appalling colours!!

LIZS · 30/03/2006 10:13

Trimax scored poorly on the Which? test last year.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 30/03/2006 11:33

That's good to know. Thanks!

matnanplus · 30/03/2006 12:08

The summer cover in cream Wink great colour, hub wagtail is different and you wouldn't miss it on the airport luggage belt Grin

hub2dee · 30/03/2006 12:30

I've always wondered about checking car seats through the baggage system...

They make such a song and dance about never buying second hand for fear of a prior accident / hidden stress to the plastic etc. but it's OK to chuck it in the hold and let it get walloped on the carousel ?

... anyway, glad you think my chosen colour scheme is yummy.

Smile
