Is the Britax maxi Cosi Safe??( The Zebra Print One)

We bought one to leave at the ILs 2 years ago. At the time, I wasn't too impressed by the fact that the harness clips were plastic.

Anyway, was there somehting in the news saying that it was one of the car seats that failed safety tests - are car seats all supposed to be Isofix now? Our one at home is, and has a 5 point harness

Just wondering if it safe to give to my sister, as it's hardly been used, or whether I should buy her a new one.

It is not Britax. Maxicosi is a seperate company. Which stage of carseat is it? ie baby or toddler?

If it is the toddler one it is a maxicosi priori and we have one that I believe (and certainly hope!) is safe. Lots and lots of car seats are not isofix - most I would say.

if you mean the maxi cosy priori then yes it is one of the safest car seats fro children 9 - 18kg.

The britax ISOFIX one is a bit better but can only be used in cars that have ISOFIX points installed in them.

The maxi cosy one is safer when strapped in using seat belts then if you dont have isofix points and use the isofix one strapped in using seat belts as well.

So yes if you sister doesnt have isofix points in her car, then the maxi cosy prior (assuming thats what youve got) would be a very safe seat for their child to use!

When I was buying my car seat in John Lewis the lady pointed out that the isofix one was only safer in theory in that the bottom is less likely to come unstuck but the top still had to be fixed by a seat belt (or something). I did get a bit confused I must admit. but basically she was saying there was not much difference, as long as they are properly fitted.

I thought isofix seats didnt have to be fitted by a belt.... thats the whole point of isofix

given that the seat is attached to the seat base and the seat bas is firmly clipped to the car why attach the seat as well.

Also the ISOFIX seats when fixed in isofix way are much safer in the independant tests!
