for DS1 who starts reception in September but the sizes for the jumpers are in chest sizes (inches). Does anyone have any idea how these relate to your normal age clothes sizes? DS1 normally wears age 5-6 but then there is another 6 months to go before school - any idea what size jumper I should get him?

No idea - why don't they just put them in cm? I just went into the office and got the secretary to sort out dd's size!

waterfalls · 22/03/2006 21:19

ds is 5, and his jumper says 26 - 66cms

Tommy · 22/03/2006 21:21

I just thought probably the biggest one they have offered which is 30"? Really silly not giving size everyone knows Angry

My ds2 is in reception and is wearing a 28" jumper. He wears it with cuffs turned back. He is 5 in june but is quite tall for his age. I thought a 26" would be too short for him in the body.

waterfalls · 22/03/2006 21:22

5 - 6yrs Smile

Tommy · 22/03/2006 21:22

that's what I would be worried abut kayleigh - DS1 is 110cm tall with a very long back

My ds is tall too, but this size seems fine for him.

A bit more advise,if you are buying polo shirts that are 100% cotton, they shrink the first time you wash them, even in cold water, so I have to buy the next year up.

Kayleigh · 22/03/2006 21:27

Have just checked our height chart thing where I measure them, and in December ds2 was 112 cm. Think the 28" should be ok - the 30" might be a bit too big.

Furball · 22/03/2006 21:30

I had this with ds last year, it's crazy, I figured he must be in the smallest size (24)which is what I originally bought in the July - it fitted him but by the November I had to buy the next size up. Luckily I managed to get it second hand so only cost me a few pounds. It's a pain in the bum and pricey.

They will exchange it if it doesn't fit but I would try a 28 if he is already in age 5-6. My DS is really skinny and is in a 26.

Clary · 22/03/2006 21:39

Just went and had a look at piles of clothes for tomorrow in the corner.
DD (4.5) wears 26. She wears 4-5 (if available) or 5-6 age clothes. 5-6 usually a bit big tho (3-4 too small of course)
DS1 (6.5) wears 30. He is a big 6 tho, 7-8 jamas getting too small.
If yr Ds is big (sounds like it) I should go for 28. That's inches btw.

julienetmum · 22/03/2006 21:49

Different brands are slightly different but I sell uniform that is sized in inches.

Roughly (and it is rough)

24" = 4/5
26" = 5/6
28" = 7/8
30" = 9/11

ds will be 8 tomorrow and is pretty skinny and normally wears 7/8, and a 28" fits. 26" sounds about right for your ds. Can you not take him along to try one nearer the time ?

Tommy · 22/03/2006 22:13

I could Liz but the letter says that the prices will "change" in the new school year.....

think I shall have to hang around outside the school at 3pm and steal a jumper from a similar sized pupil Grin
