Our kitchen is falling to bits. Have just chuicked away a drawer which was beyond repair, leaving a big hole.

Has anyone had any recent quotes for kitchens they could tell me about?

To give you an idea of the scope, we need:

Approx 8 base units & 6 wall units, 6-7 drawers.

2 built in units to surround washing machine & drier, fridge freezer.

1 built in broom cupboard.

Cooker hood.

No appliances required.

Most likely to buy kitchen & arrange separate fitting ourselves.

TIA

Not sure but we just need new doors on ours and dh priced them just to be over £700 for doors only.

Go online to B&Q etc and see what they have on offer as I think they can also do fitting.

I think there's a kitchen planner thing on Ikea's website ? Should give you an idea of what you get for your money. Cod has recently had a new Ikea kitchen (think she had it fitted by someone else though, not Ikea) and she really rates it.

we got our kitchen from ikea, one tall cupboard with pull out larder thingummy, 3 bases, one with drawers, the other shelves, 3 other wall cupboards plus sink, taps, extractor fan for over cooker, and wooden work surfaces - for £1,000 - we paid someone to fit it all for another £1,000. excellent value, imo.

IKEA ones look great, I think. Plus some are actual wood. We've done ours from B&Q (half-price range) Done it to sell, wouldn't rate it for very long-term

Reckon ours has cost about £1000 - 10 foot by 7.5 ish foot kitchen

These all sound quite good prices.

Have horrors of using MFI etc. Have heard so many bad things & have had a nightmare experience with Currys in the past.

I have got several quotes for almost an identical kitchen layout, different to yours though but the following may help you to have an idea on the diference of prices according to provider:

IKEA quoted £3000, B&Q around £4500, Wickes £1500 (yes, 1500), MFI £6000. Fully integrated appliances were included in the cost (fridge, freezer, ceramic hobs, hood, oven, and washer/dryer *) . You should expect to pay about the same you paid for cabinets to have it fitted, but, if your kitchen is perfectly square, you are not moving around electricity, water, and gas points, you can easily do it yourself.
HTH

*washer/dryer not included in Wickes quote

reggiemolly · 23/03/2006 12:50

that's interesting as my Wickes quote was more expensive than MFI etc but less than Magnet. i paid about £5000 for units only but our kitchen is quite big. it was on 40% off offer for units only. I think they have 2 ranges though, trade and retail and the trade one is a lot less.

Re Ikea: lots of the fitters I spoke to said that they won't fit them as they are not easy to fit in old houses with non straight walls. but they are nice and good value.

Pay attention to season sales, they are on most of the year. If you wait until the very end of the season you will get the best value. (normally they have the initialsales season and they extend it for a couple of extra weeks afterwards, that's the time to order :))

Kitchen cost can go far beyound ceiling. We've had a new kitchen fitted: include all new units and new hood/washing machine/dryer/fridge/freezer from Kitchen Consulatants. All together under 20k. Even so, we still have to chase them to get details sorted. Units and appliances are turely good quality, would last for quite a few years. If you after a good quality and good fittings, John Lewis has a kitchen design service who has three ranges of kitchen, no all are expensive. I'd suggest you give it a go. Stay away from KC.

Jewsons have had a 50% sales for several months. Mind still cost £11k, but we did have specially made corian worktops which cost £3k so around £8k for just kitchen. Oak, have to admit it looks good, but wished saved the money and gone to ikea now. (we are planning to move next year which we didn't know at the time)..
