ds (10mo) gets crotchety in his pram sometimes, loves being carried, and I guess will love being in a carrier on his dad's back. they range from cheapish, right up to about £170, so could do with some guidance...

We use a Kelty Kids one, and we're happy with it. I think it was midrange.

I think a lot of the really pricey ones are for mountain hiking for hours and hours, rather than a half-hour here and there.

Yeah we adore our top-of-the-range Little Life one (our only really expensive baby item - wedding present!), but it is meant for serious hiking - you are paying for things like a really effective raincover which may not be necessary if it's just to be used instead of a pram.

We have a Deuter Kid Carrier - it's german made, mid-range and we love it. it's really, really comfy and easily adjustable between short @rse me and tall (6'4) DH.

Also check out NCT Nearly new sales- you might be able to get a top of the range one for a good price.

! have a vango one which was £10 from Oxfam!

We've got a bush baby one - love it, it's fabulous and has been used by me (5'6) and dh (6'3) - we got it off ebay from a shop - reduced because it was the demo one they'd used in the shop.

throckenholt · 22/03/2006 13:40

bushbaby very good - but expensive - can get them second hand - they don't wear out. If you are going to use it a lot then it is worth it.

Have a look at the ergo baby carrier \link{http://www.naturalchild.co.uk/ShopHome/index.html?target=dept_120.html\here}

I've heard fantastic things about it and it's not so expensive and not so bulky!

Yorkiegirl · 22/03/2006 23:12

I've got an ergo classic and I love it. Never found any of the framed ones to be comfy. DD2 is nearly 2 and I can carry her very easily in it. My friend carries her sturdy 3 year old DS in hers.

We want to use ours for the bus, getting into taxis and the ocassional walk - eg 1 -2 hours.

Which one do you recommend?

Particularly interested in Little Life and Bush Baby and would love to hear people's experience - which model did you buy and why?

\link{http://www.theoutdoorshop.com/Outdoor/ProductDetails.aspx?language=en-GB&product=1122601\Ive got this one}Its really comfy to wear and dd2 loves being in it.

spidermama · 07/04/2006 23:42

I love the Vaude Jolie. I have carried 3 year olds in it and it's now on its fourth baby. Highly recommended for comfort and longevity.

Clary · 08/04/2006 00:01

We've got the Bushbaby (they now do two, a luxury and a lite, when we got ours they just did one, sort of in between the two).
It's fab. Was £100 but so useful when walking (on hills etc I mean) and also for eg climbing down cliffs and walking along the beach on hols (impossible with the maclaren).
It lasts for ages too - ours is nearly 6 yrs old and looks like new. The biggest child I have carried in it was ds1 (a very big tall boy) when he was about 3.5, only for about half an hour at a time tho!

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 08/04/2006 03:42

I totally agree with the Ergo carrier. I can carry around my 2.7 y. o. DS in it for long periods of time comfortably. But mostly use it for 7 mo. old dd, and she does very well in it. I like it can be used for front, back and hip carry, and they tend to hold their resale value very well on e-bay.

Pruni · 08/04/2006 08:46

We have a Vaude one, did us proud. V comfortable. Cost around £75 I think (bottom of the range).
Things to think about: a stand (useful with a non-walking baby, to prop them up and use carrier as a high chair when having your end-of-walk pint); a raincover - I regret not getting one, it would have been worth the extra cost.

bert1 · 25/04/2006 19:44

check out the Vango website. Very comfortable. Come with or without canopy and rain cover. No more umbrellas. :)

northender · 25/04/2006 19:50

Vaude one for £100 ish still going strong 4 years later and serving 2nd baby well.
