I'm fed up with Clarks, they've messed up the measuring too many times, and the school shoes look hideous now my girls are a bit older (5). Just curious where everyone else goes.

I always shop at Clarks and have never had a bad experience. ( I have 2 x ds's aged 6 and 4 with wide feet)

I buy from a local independant shop even though I live in the town where Clarks were made and they have a massive factory outlet here! I love GEOX for boys - summer and winter shoes, they wear so well and have this breathable sole that seems to stop my DS feet from sweating!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/03/2006 12:10

ive tried start rite on jess, but the girls ones with the middle bar and buckle dig into her feet.... its a nightmare!

I GIVE UP! (Why cant she be like me and HATE wearing shoes anyway?!)

winniewoo · 21/03/2006 12:12

anyone know a good independent shoe shop in Carlisle or Edinburgh..thank you!

Surfermum · 21/03/2006 12:30

I go to a Startrite independent. They're really good. It sounds like your dd has feet like mine JARM. The man who owns it took one look at dd's feet and selected a pair that fitted perfectly. He wasn't there the last time and his assistant tried various styles, but then said "aha I realise now why he chose the ones he did" and got out a similar style. I have total confidence in them.

The Clarks Outlet shop at Street were really good too when I went there. They wouldn't sell me any shoes for dd as they said none of them fitted properly.

I get the kids shoes from clarks. I've always been pleased. Although I did buy daughter some school shoes once from a cheap shop.. and she had to stay in at lunchtimes because her feet hurt.. God did I feel awful... they looked tatty really quickly as well....

Jon Lewis or Russel and Bromley. My favourite brands are Start Rite and Elefanten. Daisy and Tom has nice shoes too, but not sure how big they are. Might be too small for a 5 year old.

Uwila · 21/03/2006 12:42

I find Clark's fit the foot properly, but they always want me to buy a pair that just fit. And I say, if she is likely to outgrow this shoe in 3 months, I want the next size up. If I buy winter boots in November, I expect them still to fit in February.

And Clark's are that much cheaper than the good brands. Oh, and Clark's shoes (in my opinion) are ugly. They don't go with any of her clothes. Give me a pair of shoes in one normal colour (pink, black, white, navy... but only one of these colours, not all four)

Uwila · 21/03/2006 12:43

Sorry, Clark's areN'T that much cheaper...

I went to a small independent shop where I live, the assistant practically drummed me out of the shop! Claimed I would never find normal shoes to fit dd's feet as they were exceptionally tiny (3.5f at the time) and I would probably have to have special boots made.

I heroically restrained myself from shouting 'b*llocks!', took myself off to the start rite factory shop who didn't bat an eyelid and presented me with a range of 3.5f shoes to choose from. Fortunately, dd has always got on well with the Start rites.

Does anyone know where I can buy nice baby girl shoes for my DD (14 months) I don't want leather but want them to look like leather, smart - not like canvas types.

hulababy · 10/04/2006 21:41

Until recently I used John Lewis or Clinks (Children). Now we have moved there is a nice independent shoe shop locally. It is really nice in there and they take lots of time over serving you and making sure shoes fit properly, etc.

LIZS · 10/04/2006 21:42

Clure , Next ? However I'd only buy non fitted for very occasional use.
