driving to calvados in two weeks time and i need something that will help keep ds (2.5) happy but not make us want to top ourselves.

i've tried several tapes/cd's from the library and most of them seem to be funked up versions of trad nursery rhymes and are just cringeworthily awful

do you have a favourite cd for small kids? any other tips?

tia

just play pop music, nice easy sing along stuff. or music that you usually listen to. my kids like Pink, aerosmith, pop tunes, hardcore lol.

couldn't u get a basic children's walkman?

sanchpanch · 20/03/2006 10:21

tumble tots cd thats the only only one i can bear in the car, or Hi5 cd

I down loaded loads of short stories, songs and loads of Dr Suess stuff off the internet and made my own cd, dd loved it.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/03/2006 10:24

i do play normal music, he has a penchant for pop/rock (foo fighters) but that isn't going to last us for 6 hours! need something that we can sing a long to, but that isn't such an awful version we can't bear it for longer than one track.

thanks sanchpanch....are they nursery rhymes?

I'd try to borrow or find a children's walkman, dd sometimes uses one in the car and she loves it. Started using one when she was aboaut 3
A favourite here is the Jungle Book cd - not too excruciating to listen to over and over again and has some nice catchy songs
enjoy your trip!

The \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0951711210/qid=1142850346/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/202-0548513-2519827\Playsongs CD} is lovely, traditional and new songs played with real acoustic instruments and sung by proper folk singers. Ds also likes the Mog CD, Little Bear / Big Bear stories, Cat in the Hat.

mumatuks · 20/03/2006 10:34

oops My First Album, not CD!

yoyo · 20/03/2006 10:44

Puffin Audiobooks' "Nursery Rhymes and Tales" is fantastic. Read by Susan Jameson and James Saxon. Tongue twisters, songs, simple stories - a double cassette lasts 2.25 hours! We bought it for DD1 and played it so much that we had to get another one for DD2 and now DS loves it.

treacletart · 20/03/2006 10:47

If you're after something a little different - They might be giants did a kids album called "No". Would work as a nice antedote to the sacharine stuff.

tassis · 20/03/2006 10:57

sophable, do you have a laptop? my dh bought one of those connector thingys that you stick in your cigarette lighter (cost about £15) and played dvds on laptop for ds during a mad long journey recently.

otherwise try the library for kid's stories/songs.

also try wrapping up wee toys and snack - ds loves getting presents.

sympathy - I detest car journeys with my 2 year old!
