Ok. We have got peugeot 807. i love it. For us, it is the perfect car. We have got 3 kids, all still in car seats (2 big ones using seat belt & youngets in 5 pint stage 2 or whatever, he's 2 yrs old anyway)

So we have to change our car soon (it's on a 3 yr lease & time's nearly up) Dh is INSISTING we get a different car. Purely becasue it would be too boring to get the same one. He doesn't dislike the car, there's absolutely nothing I don't like about it.

Trouble is, I cannot find another car on the market that is as good. The closest thing is the grand voyager, but a big draw back as far as I'm concerned is that the mddle row only has 2 seats in & the back row has "3" - it's not really 3 seats is it? Not 3 full size seats, so we would alwasy have to have 1 child alone at the back, not altogether in my Peugeot. We would never have the huge boot space we currently do, as the'll always be unfortunate outcast child back there taking up nearly half the space. I'm not even sure if 1 car seat plus 3 adult pasengers would fit in the 3rd row?

SO does anyone know of a car I've not yet found that is as good? What I'm especially looking for is

  • electronic slidey doors (essential)
  • 3 seats in middle row & 2 behind

I'm not too fussy, see only 2 essential criteria.

In 12 years together this is really our 1st totally not seeing eye to eye. Getting totally diff car just fro the sake of it. grrrrr. I wouldn't care, I drive it 90% of the time. He'll drive it max 1 per week. rant rant rant

oh & he won't consider the merc vania or whatever it's called because it's got crap reviews.

tha Mazda has a sliding door and the number of seats you want, can't remember the model name. We looked at it but dh was a bit too tall for the drivers seat.

Frizbe · 17/03/2006 14:31

Toyota do a similar model by the sound of it, although don't recall their being much boot space to it?

ernest · 17/03/2006 14:32

just looked at mazda 5 - is that the one? Middle seat in 2nd row described a half seat & folds away, so not too sure, plus got the impression that the slidey doors are not electronic - is that right? Sorry, sounding fussy aren't I? but they are so bloody useful

mazda are eletronic on certain ones. Just wondering though, why you want them? They make car very heavy and sluggish.

Kelly1978 · 17/03/2006 14:43

you could always go for a citroen c8. Its bigger but quite similar to the peugeot. There is the vw transporter too, but I don't think that is electronic and it looks like a bus.

SenoraPostrophe · 17/03/2006 14:45

if you're happy with the peugeot, get another one. you'll only find some niggly problem with a different one. or you could hire one a week for a few weeks.

ernest · 17/03/2006 14:45

want slidey doors again as have them now & find them invaluable. Our parking space here is miles bigger than in a normal car park & I still had to reverse the car out into the road & then stop & fasten up their seat belts cos couldn't open doors enough to get to buckle. (Dh brought a landrover discovery for us to try out. roll eyes in frustration). They are really great & nearly every time we park they've been a total blessing. Could not imagine going back to normal doors, but no doubt will ave to

You could buckle them from the drivers seat. I've had a terrano and we've now got a seat alhambra - both very wide cars and I'm never really had a problem. I think twice I've parked it then realised I can't get the doors open, but most normal bays are ok.

ernest · 17/03/2006 14:49

the citroen is exactly the same, right down to every little know, so that is also banned. Every other car is already bugging me! I'm going to be gutted to give it up. Dh will not consider the same, so desperately hoping there's a magic car out there I've somehow missed.

sorry kelly, but the slidey doors are def. non-negotiable. It'le wind me up no end every single time I have to get all 3 in and all 3 out. That's 6 wind ups every car journey, 12 if you assume I'm coming home! Smile

Here's the \link{http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carreviews/list.aspx?family_id=MPV&x=12&y=7\Parker's} list of MPVs, ernest (small as well as large)

If you don't like the layout of the Grand Voyager, have a look at the \link{http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carreviews/review.aspx?model_id=949\Toyota Previa} - it's what I'd get Grin

JanH · 17/03/2006 15:24

\link{http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carreviews/gallery/?img=0&model_id=949&category=Interior%20detail\Interior} - 3 separate full-size seats, huge boot space, slidey doors, perfect!

JanH · 17/03/2006 15:29

Oh, slidey doors might be manual, would that be a deal-breaker? Sad

Enid · 17/03/2006 15:33

tell your dh to get stuffed and get another 807

JanH · 17/03/2006 15:37

Could you sneak the \link{http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carreviews/review.aspx?model_id=208\Fiat Ulysse} past him as a completely different car? Wink

Don't like that blue though.

Kelly1978 · 17/03/2006 15:41

the mazda is the only other one that I can think of that has electronic sliding doors. It's also supposed to be very safe.

shame about the citroen - that would have been perfect! The same, but different. Grin

Kelly1978 · 17/03/2006 15:44

that display is seriously ugly. I wouldn't like the dials in the center neither. Otherwise,it looks ok.

I'd love the discovery, personally! Sad
