Re-modelling White Gold jewellery

I have a ring that I'd like re-modelled into something more modern as it's just lying in a drawer. I've made an appointment with a local jeweller to discuss styles etc but I just told him I'd an old gold diamond ring & didn't mention it was white gold. Girl at work (opinionated know-it-all) said you need to go to a specialised place as they can't just melt down white gold because of the rhodium plating. I'd never even considered this. I want the band a completely different style so it would need melting down. Is she talking codswallop or am I going to look like a numpty? Blush

Depends on whether it's white gold or rhodium-plated yellow gold. "Proper" white gold is an alloy of yellow gold and another metal, often nickel or silver, but sometimes the term white gold is used to describe something made of either yellow gold or another base metal, and plated with rhodium. If it's plated then you'd probably struggle to find someone who could completely remodel it, if it's an alloy you might be OK.
