Toy sewing machines which really do sew - anyone got one? Tried one? Thinking of buying one?

I'm looking at \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3521634.htm\this one from Argos.}
Looks OK to me, for basic sewing.
Am considering it for dd's imminent 8th birthday - if anyone has any views, I'd be grateful!

Actually her birthday's very soon indeed, so I have to crack on and buy it if I'm going to...

I had one of these when I was a kid around 7 and I loved it. Am assuming it is probably very similair. I used to spend hours with scrap pieces of material 'machining'

I dislike battery things (which is why DD hasn't got a sewing machine.....I can't find a manual or mains one)

I think dd would, Nemo. She's always making stuff, and has been asking for a sewing machine, but I had no idea these things existed.

I know it doesn't help you with whether or not to buy that one but I had one as a kid too -it was fantastic! I created all sorts of outrageous outfits for my Sindy..
I'm sure your DD would love it

Oh, thank you! I think she'll turn into a mini version of her auntie, who's always running up dresses, etc - unlike me, I think I missed out on the sewing gene. I'll definitely get one, then.
