Swimming with a Seven Week Old

Hello - I want to start taking my DS swimming on the basis that he is loving his baths at the moment. Firstly, is there anything to prevent me taking such a young baby swimming? Secondly, could anyone recommend any swimming seats or swimming costumes for him?

Thank you all!

There's nothing stopping you taking him swimming but bear in mind that public pools are not terribly warm (even the baby pool) and little babies get cold very quickly. You may only be in there ten minutes. (Unless of course you don't live in the UK and it's lovely and warm where you are!)

Swimming seats IMO make it worse as the baby is half in and half out of the water, so they get even colder.

I didn't use swimsuits for mine when they were small, just a swim nappy.

Thank you Sidge - would it be worth investing in a baby wetsuit perhaps?

I've been taking my little boy swimming since he was about the same age 7/8 weeks. I have found that private pools (such as hotels and gyms) are warmer than public pools many will let you pay to swim even if you aren't a resident.
Hydrotherapy pools are my have though, but most are in schools so you have to take lessons privately.

There are loads of baby swimming lessons so shop around - I found one at £130 for 10 lessons and another at the same pool for £76!
I put my boy in a swim nappy (I bought some from amazon which are pull-ups, they're great) and a pair of splash about trunks (for baby girls in our class wear the same - topless!) We have a little wet suit buy we don't use it in the hydro pools.
Even so, whatever the temperature of the water, half an hour is his limit.
