Cheap, big golf shoes?

DH has a golf thing to go to with work. He doesn't golf, doesn't want to pick it up as a hobby. He'll probably caddy, on the day.

But, apparently, the course doesn't let people on without golf shoes.

He wears size 14, just to make things more interesting.

His normal big shoe retailer sells golf shoes for £80, which seems a bit much for shoes that will be worn once.

Any suggestions?

I don't think so. Hmm, will websearch.

I've found some on ebay, but they're at £20 now. Which would be ok, I guess.

I think golfers are generally all golf-mad, and want to own all the best kit possible right now.

Not finding anything with golf shoe rental.

I think DH is curious to go, or something.

Difficult for him to use "bone in me leg" as an excuse, as he bikes to work every day.

I think his current plan is to wear trainers and hope for the best. Apparently they don't always check? I didn't know golf shoes were a requirement for golf.

Like fake ones?

Wouldn't they fall off?

Interesting idea, though.

Oh, I see. I was wondering about the felted cleaty things.

I'm not sure all golf shoes have those silly aprony tops. At least, \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8778660258\these} don't.

I think ebay may have come through. DH swears he can wear 13s for a day without his toes falling off.

I was going to suggest Lidl, one of their "special" days coming up on the 16th is on golf, they have golf shoes for £9.99! BUUUT, when I checked the size, only up to 11s, sorry.

NotQuiteCockney · 12/03/2006 20:23

I visited Lidl today, because I'd heard of the golf shoes. But yeah, they're not in yet, and when they will be, they'll be way too small. Unfortunately. £10 for shoes he'll wear once seems like a good price.

Ebay came through. The shoes fit ok when DH removes the insoles, and wears thin socks. They certainly fit well enough to wear for a day, anyway.

How utterly bizarre it all sounds.
PSML at thought of NQC's dh in a pair of faulty Lidl golf shoes.

Poor bloke..sounds like hell on earth.
If my dh so much as mentioned 'teeeing off' I would be knocking on a solicitor's door.

Mind you,did once spend an utterly surreal weekend in Myrtle Beach SC with a bloke I was friendly with on a corporate golfing jolly.
Barking.
Had loads of people ask me if Wales was an island.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 22:26

I have suggested that, if he takes to golfing, this would be as well-received at home, as him taking to lap-dancing clubs.

It doesn't seem likely.

It's some sort of outing with gov't bods. English ones.

So is Wales an island? (Wales really really doesn't exist in North America. I really wasn't aware of its existance. And I say that as someone whose surname is at least theoretically Welsh.)

NQC..I must be told how it goes.
Am snoritng over this periodically...Grin

moondog · 16/03/2006 22:29

And no,even quite intelligent people have no idea re Wales, despite the fact that names like Jones,Pritchard,Prosser,Ellis,Richards,Williams,Davies to name but a few are all Welsh.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 22:33

He is apparently just going to caddy. Doesn't sound like him really. I bet he'll actually play.

He's got some cheap golf balls. And is getting some clubs on Monday, a colleague's old set, on loan.

I think we are far too urban for golf.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 21/03/2006 14:03

No, apparently he is playing.

Last night, he told me, with great incredulity, that apparently you can just miss the ball! Entirely fail to hit it! I was like ... um ... yes. That can happen.

This will be interesting.

Ha ha ha. And today, his boss is getting sacked, so he (and a colleague) are moving up a level in the hierarchy.

He thinks he may have to go to a football match at some point now. He's never been to a football match. (Yes, he's English.)
