Highchairs

I know probably been done before but ds is coming up to weaning and we want to start looking for a chair now.

We want one that can be used with a tray but also taken up to the table so that he can eat with us at evening meals. ie a Stokke with tray would be ideal but does not exist

So any ideas?

Depends how much you want to spend. I started a thread about this in the weaning section. We didn't want to spend a fortune and have just gone for the Ikea Antilop which you can use with a tray or without. HAve to say we are very pleased with it! Extremely easy to clean - and it does get REALLY messy! and it only cost around £15.

We have tried a basic one from John Lewis that lasted only 6 months (tray stopped connecting to the base) followed by the all-singing all-dancing chicco mamma. Hated it - huge, beastlike thing that is simply too heavy and awkward and unless you are fortunate to have a large kitchen diner, is way too big.

A second vote for the Ikea highchair here, it's light to maneouvre, cheap to buy and best of all simple to clean. Love it! Avoid anything with a plush, padded seat, they are food magnets and you will spend hours (well I did) trying in vain to clean it.

Thanks for that - only problem would be trying to get dh near ikea - our nearest is croydon and a nightmare to get to and I am not keen on online buying until I have seen something in the flesh if you know what I mean

The east coast one do they have to be very steady at sitting up to start in it?

We have a chicoo one from mothercare was around £50 and is the best highchair we have had so far and is very light and tips back - that very important I think when you weaning - I would actually get the £35 ones from mothercare if I were to have anither child and just replace then frequently soi they at least are clean - All DSs ones have got food in unimginable places that even bleach and a toothbrush don't shift - really really you think its great getting a super duper expensive highchair but get a bog standard one and then a booster seat for the table when they are older.

The seat of the one we have at the mo goes in the washing machine too which is great as I love things to be clean!!

We have a Kuster which ticks all your boxes and looks lovely. We are generally very please with it, however I have to say that we bought an Ikea Antilop to keep at my parent's house and that is just as good if not better (and a whole lot cheaper).

Not as attractive to look at, admittedly, but if I'm completely honest with myself I wish I'd bought one for us instead of the one we did buy.

mamatotokf · 12/03/2006 21:28

have a think about whether you really need a highchair at all - they take up so much space! I found the bumbo chair was great for the first few months. Then straight into a booster seat (Handisitt one) at the table. These both have the benefits of being totally portable.
(The bumbo chair was also invaluable when teething with nappy rash, the nappy came off and the whole thing is really really easy to clean!

we have the stokke one and I think it's fab - doesn't bother us at all that it doesn't have a tray

MrsBadger · 12/03/2006 21:57

there is a tray for the Stokke called the Clic-clac - available on \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CLIC-CLAC-fuer-STOKKE-TRIPP-TRAPP-massiv-NEU-OVP_W0QQitemZ7397346200QQcategoryZ25655QQssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\ebay} and from various places in Germany
