Who stocks a good choice of Brio accessories and what should I buy?

I've bought DD and DS a Brio road and train set for Christmas but would like to add to spend some of the money they have been given on some extra pieces. This can wait until after Christmas (would like to think they might be in the sales but since I've never bought it before I'm not sure if it gets discounted much!!) What would you recommend and where will I find the best choice of items, particularly houses and trees Etc.

Try Mail Order Express they have got a big selection of Brio stuff.

Would you consider Ebay? Although bear in mind some people bid ridiculous amounts for some brio stuff.

We've found that the wooden train stuff in Tesco's fits with Brio and it's much cheaper for the same thing. ELC do accessories also and their wooden stuff also fits, we recently got some mini bricks and cement from Hawkins Bazzarr (sp) and built some houses it was great fun for me and Dp

Yes, go for the Tesco version.

Metrobaby · 18/12/2003 09:54

toys direct to your door do some good prices on wooden railway stuff - incl Brio

WiShuaMerryXmas · 18/12/2003 10:05

I remember another Mum raving about the Tesco version, apparently it's loads cheaper and is virtually exactly the same, plus it is fully compatible with Brio. Can't remember who it was

BosworthBear · 18/12/2003 10:38

Souns like I need to visit Tesco! is their version stocked in store or do I need to visit the internet site? I'm also about to have a quick look at the other suggestions online thanks!

It is stocked in my local store which has a tiny toy dept, so chances are they'll have some in yours too.

WiShuaMerryXmas · 18/12/2003 10:43

Beware if ordering online, I'm pretty sure that today is the last offical day for ordering ANYTHING online. I would guess that Tesco's cut off date was earlier what with all the xmas grocery deliveries they're doing too.

BosworthBear - we've got loads of houses, people, signs and trees we don't use as DS is only interested in the trains. They're not original Brio (but compatible) but you could have them very cheap if you want some (get in touch via the contact another talker option on Mumsnet if you're interested). Otherwise I've had track pieces from woodenrailway.co.uk - good prices and p&p is free. Very quick too, things generally arrive next day.

I'm another vote for the Tesco version. LOADS cheaper than Brio. They usually have a good range in the larger stores.

HZL · 18/12/2003 15:42

I'd go for the Tesco's stuff too. We bought ds a huge box for his birthday for £25. The trains/stations/bridges are all far cheaper than Brio. You can then supplement it with favourite Thomas characters (for example) - or ask relatives to buy them.

bunny2 · 18/12/2003 21:22

Asda and Sainsburys sets are also compatible. Ds has played solidly with his set since last Xmas so this year we are adding to it. Our best buys were the 2 battery trains (one Brio and one Tesco), more fun than ones you have to push IMO.

SnowyFlakeyZebra · 18/12/2003 21:25

Other sources for Bio compatible are Argos and Sainsbury's (which I guess means ELC). Argos do some 'Thomas' items to go on the Brio.

Snowywong · 18/12/2003 21:32

Get yourself on to e-bay, if second hand is not a problem, we got a vat of it for 25 quid. It really is the best way to go if you can be a**sed trudging through ebay.

Thanks for the help everyone, I've decided to visit Tescos (after Christmas!! I can't face it before then) Given all the good suggestions I am going to try a seperate query of who sells dolls clothes that fit baby Annabelle but again aren't as expensive as her branded ones? Your probaby getting a good idea of what santa is bringing for Christmas now . .
Happy Christmas to you all.
