Freedom Slings Coorie and Carry anyone?

LucyJu · 11/03/2006 12:05

Anyone got any experience of this sling?

Got it today and am a bit disappointed. It doesn't feel very comfortable for me - dd seems far too low down and my back hurts. Also, I don't see how you could bf with it on (main reason for buying).
Am I doing something wrong? Or is it the sling itself? Any other recommendations for a good sling for 4 months upwards, with bf potential?
Thanks.

Is it a pouch? In which case were your measurements correct? Is it a ring sling? You can adjust this.

IMO the breastfeeding in the sling aspect is slightly overrated. I can do it but it's not that easy or "on the go" as I'd imagined. I have BF while walking (in Brighton) or on the bus, but it's not that effortless.

Should have mentioned that only Bf in a ring sling, I can't do it in other types.

i preferred to breastfeed dd3 in a wrap sling rather than a ring sling. have fed her walking round markets and ikea Grin

Thanks for your responses.

It's kind of a pouch, but with rings to adjust. Says it fits sizes 12-20, and as I'm a 14/16, I assumed it would be fine.

I'm not too bothered about being able to bf whilst shopping or whatever, just to be able to move around the house. DD2 always seems to want a nice long feed at around 7- 8pm, just as I'm trying to put dd1 to bed. Evenings are turning into a bit of a nightmare. I was hoping a sling would help me to help dd1 get ready to bed etc without having a screaming baby to deal with.

Any recommendations?

try adjusting the rings, they sould sit just below your shoulder. hold baby in one arm in the sling, they is a varity of positions. the tighten the sling by pulling the rings. dd3 now likes a hip carry in the ring sling.

I've got one of these and can't get on with it either DD2 screams in it but loves the baby bjorn.

Sorry thats no help to you.

I've manged to bf in a bog standard pouch sling but only when sitting down - wanted to be hands free to eat my dinner!

It does sound like you need to adjust it properly. Is there any information on their website for "troubleshooting" ?

Thanks for your help.

There aren't really any instructions with it, dd screams when I put her in it and I'm starting to hate it myself.... Doesn't look strong enough to do the job for very long and the drawstring just seems to dig in to dd and make her very uncomfortable. And it gives me backache.

Considering getting another one, maybe a huggababy? (DH will go mad if he finds out! Wink) But before I waste any more money, I was wondering whether anyone had a baby that hated one sort of sling, but was fine in another. Or hated one type of sling themselves, but found another style they loved. Or is it more a case of, hate one sling, hate them all?

I don't think it's a case of "hate one sling, hate them all". As for your DD, maybe you're not getting her in there right so she's uncomfortable. Maybe she doesn't like being in a sling - difficult to tell!!

How does she sit/lie in the sling? If she's lying down, maybe she wants to be up and looking about and vice versa. I'm looking at one of these on Ebay and it does look firmer than a basic Coorie or ring sling. Maybe your DD doesn't find it comfortable - is it too hard on the drawstring edge? Just thinking aloud...

Can you sew? If so, you can make a bog standard pouch with softer edges and more stretch to see if she likes that.

LucyJu · 14/03/2006 13:59

Thanks SoupDragon.

DD has started screaming whenever she sees me wearing it. She stops as soon as I take it off. It isn't very firm - in fact, the fabric seems quite flimsy. But I'm starting to think that it may be the drawstring which is the problem. Although the description makes it sound as if it is covered with padding, it is actually just enclosed beneath a single layer of fabric. But if I didn't draw it up a bit, I am convinced dd would fall right out.

How easy is it to make a pouch? Do you need a sewing machine? If it is feasible to make one by hand, I might give that a go...

You can make a wrap one without sewing at all. I think a machine is advisable for sewn ones because the seams need to be strong. Have a look \link{http://www.mamatoto.org/\here} under "make". There are 2 no sew ones.
