wipe clean table cloths

I've seen some wipe clean printed table cloths in the GLTC catalogue and would like to get one for our kitchen table but I'm not a big fan of the designs. Does anyone know of any other companies that do them (I'm sure there must be loads)? I've checked Blooming Marvelous, Urchin and JojoMamaBebe so far.

TIA

John Lewis sell lots of different designs of the wipe-free, plastic table cloths. Just measure your table and go along and buy the length.
I have a Cath Kidston one which is very good as looks pretty and design so busy it doesn't show the dirt.

Company on ebay selling oilcloth tablecloths. They look like they've got loads of designs.

Yorkiegirl · 10/03/2006 20:45

I just went to my local fabric shop and bought a 3m length of coated fabric. Cost me a fiver as opposed to goodness knows how much on GLTC etc. Loads of lovely designs too. Just cut it to size, it doesn't fray.

littlerach · 10/03/2006 20:49

think CK do a few oilcloth ones.

tessasmum · 10/03/2006 20:54

A lot of fabric stalls at markets do oilcloth, just take along the measurements.

louli · 10/03/2006 20:55

laura ashley do a few designs like cath kidston but cheaper.

NannyL · 10/03/2006 21:30

We have just got our nee cath kidstone one on Thursday... its FAB and she does LOADS of cool designs!

Also have a matching cotton one for grown ups! Grin

i saw nice blue or pink spotted ones in woolworths today. can't remember the price - i'm pretty sure between £5 and £10.

busybusybee · 10/03/2006 21:35

Id love a Cath Kidson one Envy

Is oil cloth waterproof and heatproof? And how durable is it against my LOs tearing holes in the middle of it??????????????????

ja9 · 10/03/2006 21:45

the ones i saw in woolworths look exactly like the blue with white spots, and pale pink with white spots on \link{http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/products/group_details.phtml?group_id=3\cath kidstons webpage}

mckenzie · 10/03/2006 21:45

Ikea do various designs and big fabric shops should have a wide range that you buy off the roll. I love mine and the table itself never sees the light of day, its in excellent condition.

The cloth itself is pretty tuff and only looks rubbish when loads of sellotape gets stuck to it. You can buy heat proof stuff from fabric places and argos to put underneath if you really want to protect table. I wouldn't recomend putting really hot plates on the plastic/ vinyl cloths. We use mats.

NannyL · 10/03/2006 22:05

IMO oil cloth is VERY durable...

got our enw cath kidstone one on Thursday.... the old one was 3 years old and pale blue... somehow some purple unwashable pen managed to get through (honestly dont know how....) but it did so we had pinky spoldges all over it!

It was one from a fabric place though rather than Cath Kidstone herself! Guess time will tell on this new one (all the paint wiped straight off with no probelm today!)

As for hot stuff... if using hot stuff we do use table mats... have never tried without.... would imagine pans hot from the stove wouldnt be good.... but if for example we are having soup and want some more, i reheat it (for about 1 min) over the gas flame, bring it straight to the table (hadnt thought about that until now) it thats always been fine!

stleger · 11/03/2006 16:02

Sadly I have had my oilcloth for 10 years. It is very durable! Keep meaning to replace it!

ScotGirl · 12/03/2006 16:49

John Lewis do a great one for ~ £20. It looks like fabric but wipes clean. It's honestly the best thing I have ever bought. Everyone that comes to visit is impressed - only past night I was pouring oily salad dressing on it as a demonstration to my friend who didn't believe me that it was wipe clean...

I can't see them on their website but last time I was in they have 4 or 5 different designs.

ScotGirl · 12/03/2006 16:52

BTW - the John Lewis cloth wipe clean table cloths are with the rest of the fabric table cloths. The Vinyl ones that you get cut to size are in the loose fabric department I think.

mckenzie · 12/03/2006 20:15

thanks everyone.

I just got one from John Lewis and the only problem I have found is staining. Mine has a cream background and tomato based sauces and curry sauces have stained it. Most of it wipes off but you can see an orange tint to it, and I have tried a few cleanign products on it. So if you have a messy pasta eating toddler buy a red or orange one.
