Pole for Bay window curtains.

Has anyone any recommendation for a place we can get a curtain pole that can go around a bay window and allow the curtain to go round the corner (Argos have one but the curtains can't go round the corners).
Found stuff in John Lewis but it's £300.

Help.

what sort of style?

is the bay curved or angled?

lapsedrunner · 09/03/2006 19:21

Standard plastic curtain rails will bend round a bay window.

mojomummy · 09/03/2006 19:25

I think Next have them

IKEA do 90 degree ones (a lot cheaper than £300!)

I got a quote once for a wooden one - best part of a grand! they are stunningly expensive. hence we still have pelmet things that I hate.

zippitippitoes · 09/03/2006 19:33

you can use copper pipe

get a straight pole bent for you

bend a plastic curtain rail

find cheaper on net

have curtains for show at side and blinds to the individiaul windows

It's an 60 degree angled bay - we used to have the plastic rail type which was just bent to shape but dh through it in the skip when the refurbishment began (grr) and he wants a pole instead.
We had the IKEA one at our last house (which had a 90 degree bay), dh has bought a couple of the 'angle pieces' to see if he can bend them to 60 degrees.

Thanks for the Next recommendation mojomummy - I can pop in there tomorrow.

Really really want to get some curtains up - we've all been living in a bedroom for the last year whilst dh re-plumbed, re-wired, re-plastered and generally re-built the living room..it's all lovely and painted but we can't move downstairs until we have curtains! I'm getting tempted to stick newspaper over the window and move down anyway!

Thanks Zippitippitoes - dh thought about copper pipe (since he's been doing plumbing he has a proper big pipe bender!) but I thought he was kidding.
He has looked at the straight ones to see if he could bend them but it looks like the 'finish' would be ruined.
We've also toyed with the blinds with curtains 'for show' idea (which is what we have in the bedroom)..might re-think this.

Have googled but couldn't find similar set-up to the John Lewis stuff - which is 3 straight poles, 2 'bendy' corners that slot inside the poles, and matching rings that can pass over the corner supports.

Thanks for everyone's help.

you could get some from a blacksmith

bluebear · 09/03/2006 19:42

Mojomummy - you adorable thing! I've got the Next site up and there's some that seem just the job! £55.

Hurrah!

We ended up getting the John Lewis one because we didn't know any better. It looks lovely, but price is absolutely ridiculous. Saw one on www.lxdirect.com - starts around 20 quid.

bluebear · 10/03/2006 15:11

Thanks TIncan - I got the measurements wrong and the Next ones won't be long enough :(

Dh found some on a website last night but is reluctant to order without seeing them in real life.

Not much detail but the catalogue has a pic of a woman bending them to the right angle.

BLACKSMITHY · 07/09/2006 09:17

It's probably too late now, but for future reference please see www.blacksmithcollection.com. We've been supplying bay poles for over twelve years and make them to measure using measurements you can take at home quite easily. We do black and stainless steel. Prices start from £110 for a 2 bend bay with up to 2m of pole, 20 passing rings, 5 brackets and 2 finials. We also do long poles, a stainless DIY bay pole system (award winning), drapery arms and accessories.
