feeling really fed up, went shopping today to buy ski trousers and they're all hideoaus and make me look like man mountain. going at easter so wondered if anyone knew if I there were any lightweight trousers you can buy and are they okay to ski in at easter - padded clothing, it's just not a good look!

why not go with the tight fitting rubbery ski-trousers.

that sounds rude... but seriously. are they out of style? you can wear the thin 'racing' type trousers as opposed to the heavily padded overall type things.

I used to have some for slalom but that was like 12 years ago.

SPARKLER1 · 09/03/2006 16:01

You need to speak to MERLIN. She's a whizz on the slopes apparently. Grin

DaddyCool · 09/03/2006 16:03

well, they've either gone out of style or i'm smoking crack because I can't seem to get any results on google for what I mean.

DaddyCool · 09/03/2006 16:10

arg! this is bugging me now. they're made out of similar stuff to dry-suits and they have flared out bottoms to fit over the boots with a zip up about 30 cm up from the botton on the side so you fit them over the boot and zip them against the boot tight.

i'll get my coat...

LIZS · 09/03/2006 19:24

You could either look for boot cut style ones or wear fitness leggings with waterproof over trousers (again not hugely stylish). Snowboarding ones might be less bulky. You did try women's cut ones I assume ?! For spring skiing it is not so much the warnmth as the wind/waterproofing you need.

I know what you mean dc but they aren't particulary waterproof and are a bit 80's !!

LIZS · 09/03/2006 19:30

Found \link{http://www.sheactive.co.uk/Nike%20ACG-Acg-Composite-Ski-Pant-.html?itemno=2080&group=3&type=sport&cart=11419324015745688\these} although judging by other prices for Columbia etc they may not be the cheapest. Also try Snow and Rock. There are lots of different cuts and bulk levels for the brands but cheaper ones are much of a muchness - functional rather than flattering !!

LIZS · 09/03/2006 19:32

cheapest as in cheapest place to buy .

lapsedrunner · 09/03/2006 19:35

Furthe to LIZS comment, Coumbia is a great, good value brand if you can find them.

lapsedrunner · 09/03/2006 19:37

You could also consider some winter walking trousers. They are windproof with a fleece lining and would be fine on spring days or with thermals if really cold.

LIZS · 09/03/2006 20:57

Something like \link{http://www.adventureshop.co.uk/lowealpine/womens_rush_pant.htm\this} perhaps ? but you'd need something underneath .

Tasa · 09/03/2006 22:46

thanks everyone, I'll check them all out, 'm sure I'll find somehting

lots of snowboarding gear is more lightweight and there are loads of trousers that look more like combats than ski trousers, you can go for the baggy look... look in guys' section as there's more choice. Snow & Rock has a good selection. O'Neill had lovely stuff this winter. Nikita is the coolest snowboarding brand for girls, you can find it on the web. lucky you...

Hi I also ski at easter and finally decided to dump my circa 1992 fitted trousers and go for trendy black boarder style - I live in cambridge but went to Chelmsford in Essex on saturday to an aladdins cave of ski wear - skiplus - the on-line shop isn't good but their shop is fab - they've got a huge sale on at the moment most womens ski pants in all sizes @ £40 -£50 loads of jackets - got a great one for my boy £20!!
Having said all this I ended up getting Schoeffel Lascar pant from Blacks as they made from Goretex and I was sick of getting up from the chair lift last year with a wet bottom!!!
None of the trousers I saw were really padded and most looked quite flattering - other websites I looked at are: www.skiwear4less.co.uk www.skimarket.co.uk - trespass pants are also good but not sure if you can buy on line. Hope this helps - snow conditions are good everywhere - v. exciting!:)

Sponge · 13/03/2006 14:17

DC those stretchy ones are v out of fashion I'm afraid. The baggy boarder look is in. I would be careful getting anything too lightweight though. There is no guarantee that spring skiing will be warm - it's more likely to be sunny but can still be freezing and it's miserable if you're cold. Also you may not always go at easter so better to have something more versatile. Also bear in mind that everyone will be wearing padded trousers so what looks out of place at home will not be noticed on the slopes.

alibubbles · 13/03/2006 15:21

Tasa, what size are you, do you want to borrow some, I have several pairs, Killy, Shoeffel, and if you really want, the sksin tight ones!

mfer, I have the Schoeffel ones too. Smile

MrsBadger · 13/03/2006 15:30

have come to this a bit late, but wanted to recommend Hellys - I'm a January skier so used to serious cold, but they're brilliantly warm and not bulky at all - some high tech magic lining or something.
(I then ruin it all with a lumpy old Trespass jacket, but that's besde the point.)

Worth noting there are Helly outlets at Bicester Village and some MacArthur Glens.

Mfer · 14/03/2006 20:53

Tasa - where do you live there is also skiwear outlet at Freeport - Braintree, Essex which I have just been told about!
