What would your DREAM changing bag be like???

Hi Everyone,

I have joined Mumsnet as I have decided to start my own business designing high-end luxury changing bags and labour bags.

I wanted to ask all of you mums out there the question of "what do you want from a changing bag?" and would you all be interested in having a "labour bag"??

The bags I will be manufacturing will be high end, quality leather and stylish. They will not be "twee" but will be designed so that they look like an everyday beautiful handbag but with all the functionality of a changing bag (including having a small changing mat included as standard.

I would love to know what everyone wouldlike from a changing bag and I can then ensure that all of mums' "wants" are included in my designs.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Sara

Hi,
Don't forget dads' "wants" too - changing bags are not just used by mums.

Rucksack straps. Messenger bags are s nightmare for the back, and also can swing forward and hit a child. Rucksacks can include pockets on the straps for phone, keys, travel card/change. My leather rucksack for work (hidesign) had a pocket and a zipped pocket on the back, which I could reach into for my wallet and Oyster card.

Separate compartments for dirty things/changing stuff and the dry things (books, clean muslins) are a must. Ideally you would have wipe-clean/waterproof lining for the "dirty" compartment.

Hope this helps!

Must not be super heavy to start with. Comfortable strap on your shoulder and easy peasy to attach to a buggy. Light coloured interior so you can find things!

I second the not too heavy thing. I used an old handbag for mine, however, and it was perfect. It just sat in the shopping tray of the buggy. Problem was, I looked like an unattended handbag, and got nicked.

While I loved having a changing bag that was not a changing bag, I switched to the huggies freebie from boots after that, and needless to say, it never got nicked.

I'm in the process of making a lining for a large handbag I own after not really finding the perfect changing bag.

For me that would be

1 pretty or a good looking bag (ie not for dad too, as I'm the one using it every day so I've got him his own)

2 flexible
I'd like to have nappy bags I can alternate depending on how long I'm out for eg a large for a full day, medium for a half day trip and just-popping-out small one. It also needs to be big enough for cloth nappies for two children (i know this won't be the case for most)

3 organised
I'd like separate sections for changing stuff, food/drink for me and the babies (space to store a bottle of water for me too pls!) And another for toys and my things (sunglasses, GPS, filofax (!) Etc, plus a zip pocket for keys phone and purse.

Yes, I know, Ive over thought this, but you did ask!
