hun, do you mean something to raise one end?! If so a few blankets under the matress does exactly the same job.

munz · 07/03/2006 17:10

yeah do u think it will help with Joey's stuffy nose? we're struggaling at the minute cos he's got a stuffy nose most of the night whihc keeps waking him up, two m/ws have said it's 'his normal baby sound' - but I know it's not, another one's said it's cos of the temperature in his room.

will it be safe to do that?

I put a book under the top end legs of his cot to tilt it up a bit

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 07/03/2006 17:13

yep.... we had Becky's moses basket tilted for ages!

We actually used a really thin pillow under the matress, but a few folded blankets or a few folded towels will do the same trick.

It will help his breathing.... Becky had snuffle after snuffle for the first 6 weeks, so raising the moses basket or cot was essential.

If it is overly warm in your room, try and regulate temp a little. If not, a bowl of boiling water under the crib will help vapourise the room and clear the stuffyness.

munz · 07/03/2006 17:16

no if anythink i'd say cold, althou the temps say 18 or 21 oc so he has his sleep suit, vest nappy and either a fleecy blanket folded over in half and swaddled or the cellular one depending on the washing!

i'll have to give that a try with the towels - poor little lamb keeps waking himself up which is why I know it's not just his baby noise at night.

hi munz
I used to either put books under legs at one end or use a pillow/blankets to tilt it up.

Hope you and little one are ok.

munz · 07/03/2006 17:19

ok guys thanks, DH will be pleased not to spend any money! lol - will wait for Joey to wake up b4 giving it a go.

3 hourly feeds today so looks like he's getting his own patterns - no thanks to the silly m/w who told me to keep waking him up for feeding!

clothing for temp sounds right...... sotry raising cot tonight........ all else fails buzz me tomorrow

munz · 08/03/2006 08:40

Jarm - still no better althou Joey didn't want a feed till 4am from 10.30 pm, I think he's possibly getting too warm - but his body doesn't feel it. DH keeps putting his blanket over twice and swaddaling - i'm wondering if that's too much?

also is it possible for a baby of 13 days to be scared of the dark cos he doesn't seem to settle in the dark v well??

this morning I noticed a v v snooty nostril as well when feeding him, was wondering if that nose thing in tescos is worth a try?

Never used the snot thing.... i feel noses are best left alone (I wouldnt want someone shoving something up my nose!), but it might be worth asking docs for some saline drops to clear it. You put them in before feeding (Becky has had about 3 prescriptions for these in 18 weeks!).

I would say try just the swaddle for day time naps today and see how he goes... he may well be too warm.

He ISNT scared of the dark.... just adjusting to different lights etc.

At least he had a good break from feeding last night, did he sleep most of it?!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/03/2006 08:49

ive got to pop out now, but will post again when i get home..... be about 12.

Dont stress ok xxx

munz · 08/03/2006 10:00

no he didn't sleep - DH took him into the other room at 1am as I got up to feed him but he wasn't intrested he fell straight back to sleep once he was on the big bed (as usual!)

this stuffy nose things really starting to get us down as i'm sure he's over tired as well cos he's not sleeping so well - can he have drops at 2 weeks old?

Try twisting the corner of a tissue into a thin bit and sticking it gently up his nose - makes him sneeze!

nattylou · 09/03/2006 09:26

Would the raising the moses basket mattress slightly with towels etc work for my son too? He feeds well and sleeps fantastic during the day, but during the night, he just wont settle. I thought it might be wind, even though he seems to get it up before i lay him down, and that maybe raising the mattress might help? I was also looking for a wedge pillow support thingy, but if towels will do the same job, then it will save me some money.

Any ideas?

munz · 09/03/2006 13:42

natty lou - this is what my DS is like - the dr said to get some saline drops from over the counter - touch wood they've really helped him.
