Calling all Sling Junkies

Having been very impressed with my fleece coorie (which I made myself because I didn't believe it would be practical!) I'm thinking of getting \link{http://www.brightsparkslingsshop.co.uk/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=Kimmer-CottonandHempPouches&isThumbs=No&curpage=2&Thumbs=\a Stretch Kimmer} for summer and in the house where the fleece is way too warm.

I've also seen a mesh ring sling which is apparantly great for swimming.

Any opinions greatfully received!

Hi Soupy - I am a sling junkie too, but have managed to resist temptation and settle for just two, a wilkinet and a huggababy.

I nearly bought a storchenweige (sp?) in inka stripe though!

SoupDragon · 09/03/2006 07:56

Well, I now have my homemade fleece ouch, the mesh one I bought from Cristina7 and my old "normal" sling which I had for DSs. And I''ve kist ordered the stretch kimmer. I think that'll be it for me as far as slings go... Oh, I also have a Hippychick seat does that count?

I take it all back! I have a toddler with clean teeth, clothes on, and hair tied up... I have makeup on, and my little man is fast asleep in the ring sling Grin

Tis the bestest thing in the world ever!!! GrinGrinGrin

SoupDragon · 09/03/2006 13:17

lol!

DSs got pancakes because DD was asleep in her pouch. She did smell a little of singed pancake afterwards mind you...

Flamesparrow · 09/03/2006 13:38

DS had minty fresh hair by the time I was done... I guess some skills take more practise BlushGrin

(Should that be practice??? I can never remember!)

SoupDragon · 09/03/2006 15:40

Practice and practise work on the same basis as advice and advise IYSWIM :) the c is the noun and the s is the verb.

I have a hugabub and a ring sling - have only just got the ring sling and only tried DS2 in it briefly, but the hugabub I love - took DS2 over to Marsy's in it when he was three weeks old and he slept all the way there. I tried to put 23mo DS1 in it the other day - he wasn't happy in a sling even as a tiny baby, so I didn't hold out too much hope - he shouted "Nooo, out!" as soon as I put him in!

And when I tried my ring sling on when I got it, he came running over, tugged it and shouted "Off!" - he really is anti-sling - pmsl!

SoupDragon · 09/03/2006 17:19

Was he severely traumitised by a terrible Sling Incident as a baby?

Snort!

DD is asleep in hers ATM. Can you hear the delicate snoring?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 10/03/2006 09:04

Yes, when he was 8 weeks old, I tried to squash him and my norks into a Wilkinet - much squeaking ensued (from him, not my norks...that would be weird!).

He goes to Slings Anonymous now (the toddler branch).

Flamesparrow · 10/03/2006 09:23

Now picturing squeaking baby, and milk pouring down his ears due to the nork squeezage Grin

hunkermunker · 10/03/2006 09:29

It wasn't pretty...

SoupDragon · 10/03/2006 10:09

Did you rap him on the head with a weaning spoon whilst he was in there?

OP posts:
popsycalindisguise · 10/03/2006 10:11

I am thinking of gettinga stretch kimmer..but wonder whether it would be suitable for my chunky one year old....
i like the coories too

hunkermunker · 10/03/2006 10:14

Didn't think of that, SD. Oh, life could've been different now if I had. Toddler on back in sling, baby on front... Er...

roosmum · 10/03/2006 10:15

bit of a baby-carrying product junkie here ... i had one of those tomy front carrier things for ds, but he grew SO fast i didn't use it as much as i thought i would. bliss for the early days when he couldn't bear to be put down for a moment (THAT was a shock to me, if i have another i'll know not to even think about putting them down for ohh, about 8 weeks!).

then bought a hipseat - which is good in short bursts, but tends to make leg (on carrying side) ache. just bought a rucsac thing for putting ds in (13 mths now), hoping that'll be better.

SO what i really want to know is - should i have just got one of those african-style long fabric slings?? (wilkinet, is it??) & as a serial sling-thing buyer, how can i justify ANOTHER baby-carrying item?? Grin

roosmum · 10/03/2006 10:16

popsy, i just saw the coory thing recently.

but would a 1 yr old like it?? (suspect ds would, he's a cuddlepuss)

SoupDragon · 10/03/2006 10:16

Popsy, it looks fairly big, as does the baby on it on the site I think. I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Had more admirers of my homemade fleece pouch this morning :o And to think I'd though I would look like an idiot with it!

OP posts:
roosmum · 10/03/2006 10:16

SD - fleece pouch? - please tell more!

SoupDragon · 10/03/2006 10:18

\link{http://www.brightsparkslings.co.uk/slings.htm\like this} only I used a pattern found via Google to make one.

OP posts:
popsycalindisguise · 10/03/2006 10:18

i have a mdeium fleece one and a small cotton one - neither of which fit.....had medium post birth - fine then but way to bg now
small one shurnk in tumble drier (not meant to tumble)
ds2 loves being on my hip in a puch sling...but his chunky legs get cut into so the stretchyiness would be good and it is slight padded too :)

SoupDragon · 10/03/2006 10:20

hippy chick seats are good Popsy. thought I could use mine (later!) with the fleece pouch to hold DD more securely.

OP posts:
popsycalindisguise · 10/03/2006 10:21

not thought of a hippy chick....would still need an arm to carry him wouldnt i...

hmmmm
must get the other two on ebay :)

roosmum · 10/03/2006 10:22

ta SD. looks like the fleece they make totsbots wraps from!
is the fleece, well, strong enough?? i guess it prob is, i just can't imagine it iykwim.

was it difficult/doddle to make??
hang on, you have a newborn, right?? & other children? where DID you find the time to MAKE a sling Shock

roosmum · 10/03/2006 10:24

do you mean the hippy chiick hipseat?
i thought it was good - at first. but seem to get sore leg on the carrying side after a bit...is that just me then?
& yes it's not a hands free thing (thinking of putting ds in rucsacc & just getting on with it!!)
