Well, the title says it all really!

I don't do that ironing that often, therefore it piles up and I have to stand for hours to finish it all! Blush ATM I have a ironing board that is quite low. I've seen the taller ones that people have but I can't find them anywhere! I'm 5'10, so the average one of 94cm high isn't enough.

And seeing as I'm asking all this of you, please can you recommend a really good super-duper iron? I use the steam function a lot, and have used one in the past the had its own box thing it sat on that you filled with water.(?)

I haven't got a big budget, but I don't mind paying out a little bit more if this is a one time purchase IFSWIM.

Before I run the risk of reapeating myself again I'm off to put away all the clothes I've just ironed!

Thanks for your help.

don't know about the iron ,but the brabantia ironing board is great. My neighbour has one that she got about a million years ago and her 6' husband does the ironing all the time with it,so it must go quite high.

I'd have a look at the lakeland website as they always have great quality stuff .hth

In my opiniojn tefal easy glide irons are far superior to any other iron.

In fact they are the ONLY irons i use.

I think there is one on offer in Robert Dyas at the moment for £19.99, or failing that was looking in asda this morning and there was one for about £22

the REALLY do iron SOOOO nicely and the plate NEVER gets dirty, and its soooooo smooth!

Mumatuks · 04/03/2006 12:19

Oh GGirl, does the 6' husband come with the ironing board? Grin (better not let my DH see this!Blush)

Thanks NannyL and GGirl, will look at the options.

Bought a Tefal steam generator (£150) just before xmas and I think its the best thing ever. I too dont do my ironing often but it takes about a third of the time of a normal iron but since I got it I really enjoy it as its so quick and does a far superior job to a normal iron. It is a lot of money but well worth it IMO! I do need a new ironing board to go with it now so will watch this thread to see whats recommended!

SleepySuzy · 04/03/2006 14:04

Go Tefal!!!

daisy1999 · 04/03/2006 14:07

just bought tefal easy glide - very good

bubblerock · 04/03/2006 14:22

We've got a steam press similar to \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STEAM-PRESS_W0QQitemZ4444505922QQcategoryZ43513QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\this one}. I didn't iron before we got ours, now I sit down in front of the telly with the ironing and it's fab - I can fit most of DS2's stuff in whole! Smile

SleepySuzy · 04/03/2006 14:55

I've always wanted to ask a question about these presses: if you have something with a lot of creases in, does it make them worse?

That answers my question, thank you.

One more now: what about jeans?

vickiyumyum · 04/03/2006 15:06

you want to get one of those steam generator irons! my mum has one and i'm always borrowing it, even jeans only need ironing on one side, keep meaning to gwet myself one but can never bring myself to part with the £90+ for a decent one, apparently you can get them for about £50 so if you see any for that price let me know as i am quite desperate for one, and i think my mum is getting fed up of me borrowing hers every week.

daisy1999 · 04/03/2006 18:04

vivki there's one \link{http://www.freenet.ltd.uk/details.asp?ProductID=23853\here} for £50 - no idea what's its like!

Blu · 04/03/2006 18:18

Mumatuks - you need to get out more if an ironng board is a TREAT!

SleepySuzy · 04/03/2006 18:36

What model is your mum's, vickiyumyum?

Mumatuks · 04/03/2006 20:21

Oh no, I've been out all afternoon and not been here to defend myself! No I'm a sad old ironing woman! Grin

Thanks for the advice so far. Arfur, I will look into the Steam Generator one as that is the style I was after. Any one with a big ironing board? (oo-er missus!)Wink

mums is a tefal one, not sure how much it cost, but knowing my mum it was probably quite expensive!
