Flutterbye · 03/03/2006 20:01

In the new John Lewis Nursery catalogue they've got a car seat for £660. Admittedly it goes from birth to 4 years and can be positionned forward, backward and nearly lie flat, but still £660 ?? I'm still in shock and got the catalogue yesterday.

blimey... is it online?

Lucycat · 03/03/2006 20:07

That's more than I'd get for my car!!

Mumatuks · 03/03/2006 20:08

what make / model is it FB?

meggmoo · 03/03/2006 20:12

No!

Hulababy · 03/03/2006 20:13

Can't find it their online store. Which is it? It sounds shockingly expensive!

bubblerock · 03/03/2006 20:17

It's on Froogle \link{http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=car+seat&price1=400.00&price2=&lnk=prsugg\here} Aprica Euro?? Shock

Yorkiegirl · 03/03/2006 20:20

\link{http://www.whizzywheels.co.uk/apric_euro_turn_hidx__m611\here} too

bubblerock · 03/03/2006 20:21

But if you want a bargain it's only £460 \link{http://www.lullabys.co.uk/shop/erol.html#4211x0&&http%3A%252F%252Fwww.google.co.uk%252Fsearch%3Fhl%3Den%26ie%3DISO-8859-1%26q%3Daprica+car+seat%26meta%3D\here} Grin

tissy · 03/03/2006 20:22

yes that's the one! I wouldn't spend that amount of money on a car seat unless it had been tested by Which? and found to be the best by far... it's not as if it's by one of the big names, is it?

meggmoo · 03/03/2006 20:23

Wow. It's great isn't it. It'll be much cheaper once the design catches on.

tissy · 03/03/2006 20:23

br- that's just group 0/1. Think the £660 one goes up to age 4!

tissy · 03/03/2006 20:25

no, I'm wrong about the ages, but the 400-odd one is just "standard", not deluxe Grin

starlover · 03/03/2006 20:30

Rearward-facing mode.

If space on the back seat of your car is at a premium, the Euroturn can be rotated to face the back of the car. In this mode the Euroturn takes up just one space in your car. This mode should be used until baby has reached 13kg in weight.

WHERE DO THEIR LEGS GO?????

also aren't they supposed to be pretty unsafe in collisions when they lie flat? car seats in general, not necessarily this one...?

Hulababy · 03/03/2006 20:37

I too thought in past tests lie flat car seats had generally rated poorly, so unless this has some different design I'd be wary.

In the rear facing mode - is that two bars where the legs go - not clear from the picture how the child sits in the seat is it?

it would be interesting to see this in one of the Which tests, as generally the car seats that last from birth to 4 years don't score as highly as the 0-9 months or the 9 months-4 years car seats.

tissy · 03/03/2006 20:43

I remember a previous thread where someone posted a picture of a 4 year old in a rear-facing car seat. Apparently it's pretty standard in Scandinavia. The legs were flexed at hips and knees and knees apart (sort of frog position). There is eveidence that rear-facing in an accident is MUCH safer...

starlover · 03/03/2006 20:45

tissy i used to drop off some kids at school and one of the mums had a mahoosive car seat which was rearfacing, which she had her 2 yr old in! weird looking thing.

shame she had it in the front seat

tissy · 03/03/2006 20:55

sorry, tried to find the photo in the archive, andthere are over 7000 threads which mention car seats!

Miaou · 03/03/2006 21:12

Gawd....can you imagine what a state that car seat will be in by the time it has had 4 years worth of puke, squashed raisins, melted chocolate buttons and crisp crumbs massaged into it? Bleuuuuurrrgh.....

starlover · 03/03/2006 21:14

i have a birth to 4 yrs car seat... only, it won't fit in either car rear-facing Angry

so had to have infant carrier as well! lol

didn't cost me £660 though!

albosmum · 03/03/2006 21:16

for that money it should drive the car!

Miaou · 03/03/2006 21:18

Good point albosmum - we own three cars atm and all three together cost less than that car seat Grin
