Do you have a washing machine with a fast cycle?

I am getting to the end of my tether with my washing machine - I am willing it to die but it just won't. Help!

It takes 2 hrs 20 minutes to do a normal cotton wash on 40 degrees and it drives me mad. I find it impossible to keep on top of the washing and it can take a whole bloody week to clear the washing after a holiday. I want to be able to turn around several loads in a reasonable amount of time.

Just seem this comment in Which? about a Bosch "It's quick, too - the cotton wash takes 142 minutes for a 7kg load, and the easy-care option takes just 83 minutes, so you won't have to wait long for your clean clothes." WTF?!

My machine also will only do a half load on a 60 degree synthetic wash - why? why? Why not on a 40 degree cottom wash for gods sake?

Save me from my machine! Do you have a good, quick machine?

i have, it's an indesit

does a 60min wash up to 50 degrees and a 30min wash up to 30 degrees.

UnChartered · 08/07/2012 12:24

hotpoint one here that has a 30 min quick wash at 40deg

bamboobutton · 08/07/2012 12:25

just had a look at our machine, it's a hotpoint, not indesit. we did have an indesit and that had fast washes too.

I have a quick wash on my cheapy becko washing machine.

Takes about 30 minutes

Thumbwitch · 08/07/2012 12:29

I love my machine. It's a Bosch - it has variable temperature settings on each wash, and it has a quick wash option (15 minutes) which will wash at cold, 30 or 40 degrees.
Cottons will wash on anything from 30 up to 90 degrees (in steps of 10 degrees); wools will wash at cold, 30 or 40.

The nappies, I used to wash every other time at 70 deg - took 2h10, that was the longest wash I would do.

The reason I wanted it was because I wanted a 50deg wash and this apparently was the only way I could achieve it now!

I do love my washing machine, but it doesn't have a half-load option, which I would have liked.

Thank you will look in to those. Was really looking for a machine with a speedy standard cycle (rather than quick wash option). Would worry that a quick wash option wouldn't actually get the clothes clean IYSWIM?

Which model do you have Thumbwitch? Thanks

I think because they are all cold fill now , it's hard to get one with a quicker standard cycle.

UnChartered · 08/07/2012 12:37

the normal 40deg wash only takes 1hr 15mins on the hotpoint

Thumbwitch · 08/07/2012 12:42

It's the Bosch Maxx Classic, pandam. I don't know how readily available they are in the UK (I'm in Australia and we get slightly different models here for some utterly obscure reason)

However, while looking for it on UK websites, I did see a question or two about it so I'm assuming that it is available - and one of the questions may (or may not) be pertinent to your own washing machine. It suggested that modern machines may have issues with imbalances creating extended washing times, the programming of the machines apparently does this! www.washerhelp.co.uk/forums/topic/788-bosch-maxx-classic-wae2026/ here you are. I don't have this trouble with my washing machine and have had it for nearly 3 years (which is rather impressive these days, sadly!!)

Pandam · 08/07/2012 12:50

Thanks Thumbwitch (my bloody machine is still going strong after SIX LONG years - die, die!)

Thanks too Unchartered, that is a much more reasonable time. Will look into both.

I have a Bosch with a standard 40 degree cycle that is 70 minutes. I feel your pain with the long cycle, I've had a really long one on a previous machine and it was painful.

My bosch also has a timer on so you know how long you need to wait.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 08/07/2012 13:23

I have got a Bosch - the quickest cycle it does is 30 degrees at 40 minutes. The 60 degree wash is 50 mins.

It would drive me nuts to have to wash everything on a 2 hour cycle, I would never get all the washing done.

whooosh · 08/07/2012 13:26

My Hotpoint Aqualtis has a "fast wash" which is 30 mins....it is the program I use the most unless clothes are REALLY dirty. Can't use fabric conditioner on that program though so I use Bold 2 in 1......

Thumbwitch · 08/07/2012 13:28

Just had a closer look at your comments, Pandam - the Bosch I have also does a standard easy care wash at 40 degrees in 53 minutes (can you tell I use this one a lot? Wink) and cottons at 50 degrees takes, I think 64 minutes (or thereabouts) - that might be the 60 degree time, in which case washing at 50 degrees will take a little longer.
It has a digital time display so it tells you how long the wash cycle is supposed to be. :)

Tinkerisdead · 08/07/2012 13:34

I have a hoover optima 7kg machine and its brill. I have a 44 min, 59 min and 29 min option at varying degrees. I bought it from pixmania on quidco and got half the price of the machine back in cashback.

Viviennemary · 08/07/2012 13:41

I've got an AEG and use the Easy Care wash for most things. Couldn't be bothered waiting two hours for the other washes. It takes 80 mins at 40, 89 mins at 60 degrees.. Quick wash takes 56 mins at 40 degrees.

MrsJohnDeere · 08/07/2012 13:54

I have a Miele which has a variety of quick washes that take from 30 mins to an hour, but unless there's some desperate urgency I use the standard mixed 40 degree wash which only takes 1 hour 19 minutes and gets clothes cleaner than a quick wash IMHO.

Pandam · 08/07/2012 18:48

Great. There is hope! Thank you. Now all I need to do it kill the one I've got.....
