Sorry, may seem like a daft question but only recently been able to buy birthday cakes in the shops here in last few yrs and USA can be behind in food shopping sometimes.
We are in the states for DS2 b'day and I want to get him a cake out there. Can you buy them in Walmart etc or do you have to order them?
Thanks

You can get them in almost any supermarket. Most have fairly plain ready-made ones that they will slap happy birthday (name) on for you right there. If you want a more elaborate one or a charachter themed one they usually require 24 hours notice. I live in a small rural town here, and there is a huge variety of flavors and types of cakes here (have my eye on a Spongebob pineapple shaped house for DS' birthday this year) so they are available wherever.

I have never seen fresh food in a Walmart (maybe in the larger mid-west Walmarts?? But I'm an east coast girl). You will need to go to a proper grocery store - most have bakery sections where you can get cakes.

Most all supermarkets have a bakery section. If you are going to Florida, you would want to got to Publix to get one!

Thanks-actually California but will look out for Publix.
