BadHair · 28/02/2006 14:46

You can get them in Tesco and Asda for a fraction of the lakeland price. They are good.

Just buy a bamboo one for peanuts in an Asian shop.
I've had mine for about 15 years.

festiveface · 28/02/2006 14:56

so i just stick it over a pan of boiling water and bung some veggies in it then?

Depends on what you're cooking!
I'd say about 5-10 mins with broccoli and firmer stuff.
Experiment a little!
I steam fish in mine too then dress with soy/rice wine/sesame oil and eat with greens and browned rice.

But moondog you are so healthy...Grin What are you having with your pancakes?

I have a huge electric one that my Mum bought me when I said I wanted a little one to go on my pan. Might ditch it and get a little one that I might actually use instead.

Grin greensleaves. We had a selection of lemon, sugar, syrup, jam and peanut butter available. DD aged 1 who had already had a cooked lunch and tea at nursery (including pancakes for dessert after lunch) ate 3. Shock

Festiveface I think those steamers look great. Although I have definitely also seen them in Asda. Are you getting one?

mogwai · 01/03/2006 19:45

We have a three tiered electric steamer. Actually, we use it so much that this is our third one in five years.

We just got the third one, and really, I wanted a hob-top stainless steel one, but couldn't find one with three layers. The electric one is fiddly to clean and store, but I think three tiers makes the difference (Chicken or fish in one section, vegetables with different densities in different baskets.
