Should I really start ripping out cabinets to fit in a dishwasher?

I really, really want a dishwasher BUT it means ripping out an end cabinet which might mean replacing the worktop and laying new flooring as it only goes as far as the plinths - in a kitchen that is only a year old. Are they really worth it and as DP is pretty useless when it comes to DIY how much is it going to cost me to get the cabinet removed? There's an electric point in the right place with a switch above the counter so the only installation I have to pay out for is the plumbing in.

Is this too much hassle or will it be worth it? Also, can anyone recommend a firm to do the work.

TIA

I think whatever it takes get one. it really makes the most enormous difference. My husband was one of the 'waht's the point' brigade but now he uses it too often (puts everything in there and never rinses beforehand!). As to the floor, it should be OK as the machines are wider than the cabinets, or you could pull forward and they are designed to go under work surfaces. Sorry can't help with a recommendation but think taking cabinets out is not too hard, putting them in is the bother

Definitely worth it. We brought one at xmas and it as changed my life Grin. I always thought it didn't bother me beforehand, but with hindsight, I used to spend hours at the kitchen sink.

Speaking as someone with a dishwasher but not enough storage space, please consider your life without that cupboard!!! Wink

If you have plenty of storage space then I would say fine, go ahead, but if you have any doubt at all, empty that cupboard and put al the stuff you have in it elsewhere. If you can get by without that cupboard for a month - great. Buy your dishwasher.

Our kitchen was put in by the previous owners of the house. I don't think they owned saucepans.... Grin

If i had to choose between the dishwasher and the telly, the telly would go. They save you loads of time and keep your hands softer than Fairy Liquid Smile

I love our dishwasher. We also have next to no storage space in our kitchen (it's a 6x8 galley kitchen with a door at the end...) and I'd not be without ours.

Oh good - that's what I was hoping you'd say Smile

JW - I only use this cabinet for a few kitchen gadgets that I could probably squeeze into another cabinet, or up in the loft if I have to.

I've just had a quote from a handyman company for £164 + VAT and parts which isn't too bad but I think I'll get DP to ask around at work and see if anyone can do it for cheaper.

Oh, I'm so excited. I can't wait to get started.
