There is nothing on Ebay.. at least I can't find any.. maybe I am looking for the wrong thing! Does anyone know how/where I can access such a garment... as DD needs to wear a sari to her spring fair with Brownies.

I love saris.. wish I was a brownie!

Can any indian ladies advise me? Or anyone else for that matter?

Prob not Sj, she doesn't have children. I have an Indian dress with trousers that go underneath with a bright scarf, any good? You're welcome to borrow it, it did actually come from India, ex mil (who is Indian) brought it back from India last year for dd but it's too big. How old's your dd? Not sure it will fit. It's acid pink and there's an acid yellow one but I'm not sure we haven't lost the scarf to that one. You'd have to send me an SAE though, I'll never get around to putting it in the post, I know I won't.

WideWebWitch · 22/02/2006 13:29

O sorrry, 7yo, you said! No, it will be too small for her I should think.

SleepyJess · 22/02/2006 14:49

She's not a very big 7 year old WWW.. skinnier than average but something like average height... (and of course I would send SAE )

Sleepyjess I can sort you out one.

meggmoo · 22/02/2006 14:52

You'll have to give me a couple of days so I can rummage in lofts etc. I'm sure I have a lovely red/gold one.

Cadbury · 22/02/2006 14:52

sleepy jess, my dh brought one back for dd from India last year - she is 5 and it is way too big for her - might it help? I'm in Medway.

Cadbury · 22/02/2006 15:43

hello? any use?

Cadbury · 22/02/2006 16:21

sleepy jess?

SleepyJess · 22/02/2006 17:15

Meggmoo and Cadbury.. wow thanks!! (Sorry was at dentist with DS! ) Either will be fine.. I never expected to be inundated with offers of outfits to borrow! thank you! I/she will take very good care of it and send it straight back!

She is a v.slim 7 year old of average height.. so which of you would be the most suitable lender do you think?

(Thank you again!)

meggmoo · 22/02/2006 17:25

Well, you could give Cadder's one a try then if no good use my one. It's a really long full size sari BTW. I'm very near Faversham, about 10 minutes drive away.

SleepyJess · 22/02/2006 17:28

Ok Megg that sounds fine, thank you. (Where are btw? Sittingbourne? Canterbury? I love my life driving between the 3.. inc Fav obv.. sigh!)

Cadders where for art thou? Isn't it annoying when we dare to step away from the pc!

I meant I LIVE my live.. not LOVE it! (Don't love it all that much at present.. too much darned stress!!)

meggmoo · 22/02/2006 17:30

Yes S'bourne. Where do you go? For school you mean? Do let me knwo if it's for recreation - we don't know anywhere round here!

SleepyJess · 22/02/2006 17:43

Both my older kids go to school in Sittingbourne (Murston Infants and Sitt. Comm. College) and youngest one to Pilgrims Way at Canterbury (although is too poorly at present.. has had 'That b*** Bug' which has now turned to bronchitis + chest infection .. he has been ill 12 days now! )

Where are your kids at school? And recreation?! Ha.. what's that! My life revolves around school runs..!

You have experienced Merry Go Round on the Eurolink estate I assume? (play centre) And the Maharani (in West st) in the best Indian restaurant in the South (IMO). That's all the 'recreation' I can think of I'm afraid, lol!

gravesend is an excelent suggestion and only half an hour or so from you

meggmoo · 22/02/2006 18:54

Ooooh Maharani curries are almost as good as mine jess.

Cadbury · 22/02/2006 19:22

Hi Jess, sorry - I had to step away to feed the pickles.

I'm happy to send it to you. It is not a long wind around sari, it is a short top and a long skirt with a scarf that matches. Its dark, amost purply red with gold embroidery. If you want to borrow it, I'll post it to you when I have your address.

Are you on msn? If so, add me

cadbury 73 at hotmail dot com

failing that, you could email me on that with your address.

stitch · 22/02/2006 19:27

kids dont usually wear sari#s as they are not that easy to handle.
either cut an adult one down, or just fold it down.
a lengha is basically a skirt and a top. completely different outfit. but will be much easier to wear. depends on how authentic brownies wants them to be.

SleepyJess · 22/02/2006 20:22

Cadbury.. will email you.. I do have MSN but I never sign in anymore as I am an unsociable cow with no time to chat to anyone..!

Thank you so much. I will of course cover the postage and send it back to you asap after the 4th. You are a star.

Thanks for the info Stitch (and others). I now know lots about indian ladies clothing that I didn't know before.. (although I always admired it.. it always looks so flattering!)

Think I am sorted now. xx

I know this is all sorted now but for future enquires and if people can get down to London, can I recommend Southall? I went to get a shalwar kameez there the other day and it was so cheap (for lovely quality silk and made to my maternity measurements) and so easy and helpful. Can't recommend it enough. I think any shop along Southall Broadway would do although we bought the material at the Century Emporium and then had it made up by a tailor in the Parthik (?) Bazaar across the way.

whatsmyname · 22/02/2006 21:16

PS also got a lovely Punjabi for ds aged nearly 3

Cadbury · 24/02/2006 13:16

sent it off this morning- you should get it either tomorrow or monday

SleepyJess · 24/02/2006 19:45

Thank you Cadbury xx

Cadders it's absolutely divine!! I love it.. and so does DD! She can't wait to wear it next week!

Thank you so much

I think the bottom half is going to be a bit big (not had time to try it on yet.. she is off on another Brownies activity as we speak.. Thinking day thing..).. so do you think it would be ok to pin it? I wouldn't want to risk damaging it any way...
