Buggypod and Marco Sky L

I have a 3 month old and a 3.5 year old and I'd like a double buggy for occasional use. I don't want to spend more than about 150 pounds. I've been looking at the Buggypod and the Marco Sky L. I like the fact that they both look really convenient. My concern is that they both say they can only be used until the child is 15kg. My little boy is already 17kg. Has anyone used either of these items with larger children? I'd also be interested to hear of anyone's experiences with these products in general. Many thanks!

Hi Tex, Marslady is your gal for the Marco Sky - she reckons it is the bees knees. My DD is 3.5 and tends to walk everywhere. I couldn't force her into a buggy if I tried therse days! Presume you need to strap him in for safety and convienience?

It's really just for long days out. We spent Friday at the Science Museum and he was so tired by the end and sooo cranky. I'm sure if I had a double stroller he would've climbed in and gone to sleep (and we might've had a nice meal in town instead of Burger King at Charing Cross . That's why a Buggy Board wouldn't work. He needs to be able to sit and rest.

hi tex
I have a marco sky L for my 2mth old and 2.4yr old. I love it although dont know how it owuld work with the older tot going to sleep as the front seat doesnt recline. IF your ds is good at sleeping in a upright chair then it would be fine. I doubt the weight would be an issue as technically the marco sky can take 2 kids up to 15kgs so would assume with a big toddler and little baby it would be fine. The only downside to MS is if you are short. I am 5ft7 and it is perfect height for me although could see it being difficult if child is shorter.

Hi
I have a Marco Sky and I hate it.
I have DS1 2.6 and DS2 5 months. I find the Marco Sky heavy to push and difficult to manoevre. If your day at the Science Museuem involved tubes they would be a PITA with the Marco (maybe with any double buggy).
I don't like the Marco because

  1. my DSs are both big. DS2 is on the 99.6 percentile and from the start his legs have dangled off the back seat which I didn't think was good for him. Now his legs kick DS1 in the back so DS1 stands up in his seat leaning forward (making it even heavier for me I think!)
  2. You can't take the bar off the front seat so I have to lift DS1 into and out of it which is a bit cumbersome and mud from his shoes ends up on the seat. He can just climb in and out of his Maclaren Quest by himself.
  3. It is almost impossible to push one handed if you want to answer mobile, hold older ones hand when walking, hold baby when crying when tiny!
  4. I am not sure how to get the baby in the back! I "slot" him in from behind lifting up the flap but I am not sure if that is what you are meant to do!

Mothercare have a new double buggy called hoxton which looks better than the Marco to me. There is extra leg support in the back for the newborn, more room between the seats and the bar on the front opens. It is more money - maybe £190 and heavier but I think better. Handles are very low on the mothercare one though

Thanks Bathmat, will definitely check out the Hoxton. Is there a shop that sells the Marco? I've only seen it on the web but think it would be useful to do a test drive. The bar on the front does sound annoying. I've seen that in other pushchairs and not bought them because of it.

No one tried the Buggypod?

tex111 if you're anywhere near N London you're welcome to come and test drive mine.

Yes it's heavy, but not with only a baby in it.

It's not actually that much heavier than most double buggies (except the ones with air in the tyres... they're a dream to push).

Never had a problem putting DT2 into the back of my Marco. Put him in from the front, but I can see your point about it maybe being difficult.

A Marco is no good if you are short. But I love love love my marco.

So tex... if you are in the area, come and have a push.

I think I'm going to go into town and check out the Mothercare version... it doesn't look as stable... but I'll check it out cos I'm curious.

I bought a Marco a couple of months ago and I don't really like it either i find it impossible to get up kerbs , to do this you have to press your foot down on the back of the pram but this is near impossible to see when the back is laid flat for a newborn. I have used mine once and now my daughter walks everywhere anyway so im back to my 12 week old in the maclaren XT and dd (3 in april) holding on to it.
If you do decide the Marco Sky is for you you could have mine for £70 plus P&P.
Hmm just realised why I was never very good at a sales job I once had lol!

Filyjonk · 19/02/2006 19:39

hoxton great, we have 7 mo and 2.6 yo. Can push one handed, handles are not too high...ds (older one) can sleep in it (but looks a bit uncomfortable). Dd can lie right back. Handles like a single if just one kid in the back. I haven't tried the Marco Sky though...but I like the Hoxton.

pootlepod · 19/02/2006 19:42

I have been thinking about a marco sky (and the mothercare one and the cosatto duet/duo(?) lite. These reviews have been helpful- I am 5 ft 3 so how would I find the marco sky a pain- is it the handles?

I tried the mothercare one out the other day- still seemed quite long TBH and unwieldy with just dd in the front (probably very different with another load in the back). Will look again though before I make the decision.

ixel · 19/02/2006 19:43

I love my marco so far, but then again thats without a baby in it, as the single buggy fell apart just a bit too early . Have got used to putting shopping in the back seat though... what will I do when I need it for the baby??!!
Ds is just over 2; he hates all buggies, but is fairly content when settled in for essential shopping etc. He cant walk for long enough ,and runs away because I'm such a crap mother, so does need a seat Thre's no problem with him falling asleep upright.

MarsOnLife · 19/02/2006 19:49

Pootlepod...stay away from the Marco. You're too short honey.

pootlepod · 19/02/2006 22:50

[Stamps feet and throws toys out of pram in despair of her genetic disposition again]

Thanks ML, since I don't tend to wear heels I shall consider the other two prams more.

Nbg · 19/02/2006 22:55

Tex

The Buggypod has only just been released on to the market. I called my nearest stockist about a month ago who said that the makers had delayed the release date but they had a gizillion back orders as they had been so popular.
Selling for £70.

I'm really tempted to get one as dd will be very nearly three when no.2 arrives but I want to use the Quinny pushchair we have so the Buggypod looks good for that.

MarsOnLife · 19/02/2006 22:56

Heels and buggies.......... ah yes..... actually.... NO! lol.
