Does anyone actually use a running machine at home?

..And are they any good? Or do you just end up tripping over it and drying washing on it?

If they are worth having, is a motorised one worth the extra money?

I have an eliptical trainer & it's fantastic. dh & I try to use it half an hour 3-4 per week. It's in the attic, in front of the telly so there's no excuse. (Except flu. but I'm better now so will have to go back on the trainer tomorrow.)

Definitely get the best you can afford. We got ours from ebay. Its worth about £2800, we got it for £800 delivered from Germany. Homefitness24.co.uk. If you get one that doesn't feel so good, you wont have the enthusiasm to do it. If you cant afford a really good one, I'd personally get a different kind of machine for less money, maybe a rower or something.

I'd love to have an elliptical too, but that would be greedy!
Our treadmill is in our front room, but tbh you have to have the telly really loud to hear it properly! I'd rather put the treadmill in the spare room ,but it weighs 129kgs, and I cant face trying to get it up there!

our elliptical cost much less than that! It's a Kettler & I'm very happy with it. Thought about getting a rower. They're excellent too.

I have ellipitical and use it 6 days a week for 20min. I don't enjoy it but I feel guilty if I don't use it cos you can't avoid it. Mine is an Olympus and cost 200 but I think there was 50 quid off.

Also for 20mins I can bear it with some thumping music.

I think running machines are much more expensive.

Hmm thanks everyone. I hadn't thought about an elliptical trainer. Actually, I didn't know that's what those ski-ing machines were called until I googled itThat's how much of a novice I am at this.

Dh thinks it's all mildly amusing - he's of the hardcore, early start, hail rain or shine bike racing fraternity. Not my thing at all. He says it's too easy to get off and stop when doing exercise at home. That's actually the attraction from my pov!
