New for old.

We've spilt paint on part of the wall and the living room carpet.

The carpet runs from the living room and up the open plan stairs and the small landing.

We're going to claim on the insurance will they only replace lounge or the whole lot do you think.

Also are we likely to get cash or vouchers or do they actually find carpet the same as the one you've got and match it?

Ha

This makes me laugh, well no actually it makes me seeth.

Is your insurance New for Old or is that what you expect?

We claimed for our sofa that our dog quite happily ripped up.
It cost over £1000 from DFS and it was only 1 year old.

More Than said we could have £800 in vouchers for Argos or Debenhams. Neither one any good as you can't see the items.
To cut a long story short, I kicked up a bit of a fuss, they gave in and said we could have £500 cash , kicked up another fuss about that and got £650.

Have a good read of your small print.

Forgot to add, they will probably send a claims manager out and theres a fair chance they will replace the lot but with vouchers for a certain store.

sorry we've got the new for old cover i just wondered how it worked - can't find paper work dh says he knows we're it is but is at work.

The thing is i don't know how much the carpet cost as it was here when we moved in - will that make a difference?

Also am i likely to get money / vouchers to redecorate as it's ruined the wall paper?

note to self - when carring paint check the lid is on properly before you balance it in your arms with a 1001 other things

They may well stipulate a particular firm(s) to come out and assess the cost then pay them direct, to ensure you actually do get a new carpet. Chances are it will be only for the lounge and if you want it to match you'd have to make up the difference (that happened when my mum did similar to her hallway). An excess will apply too.

ladyandthetramp · 18/02/2006 15:22

the excess i believe is £100 which is fine as replacing the whole lot will cost us alot more.

They probably won't pay out for wallpaper, can't you clean it off or replace that piece.

ladyandthetramp · 18/02/2006 15:23

it's not one piece it's three of four sections on the bottom of the dado - it's gloss paint so won't rub off and it's not the type of paper you can paint over.
