vyou may be interested in the internet campaign launched today by TESCOPOLY (slogan: Every little hurts)

It aims to coordinated the 150 anti Tesco disputes going on in this country at present and cater to those who believe that the supermarket giant is destroying our communities.

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 22:35

moondog, nobody hates Tesco as much as you do.

mummytosteven · 15/02/2006 22:36

interesting, will look at the thread. I detest my nearest Tescos (city centre store, small range, pricey, and horrible and stressful to manoeuvre buggy around).

alliep30 · 15/02/2006 22:40

I know what you mean.. that's why they succeed..we all want to save some pennies..There was no baked beans in my store the other day...

Heathcliffscathy · 15/02/2006 22:42

great campaign moondog, thanks for the link

fob · 15/02/2006 22:43

avoid tescos at all costs. thay are plannin to take over EVERY part of your life. read 'Shopped" by joanna somebody... truly shocking. buy local if poss.

alliep30 · 15/02/2006 22:44

what other supermarkets would you more experienced ladies recommend?

brimfull · 15/02/2006 22:44

all the farmers around here detest tescos because of their appalling control over growers.

LUckily we have good farm shop/waitrose and sainsburys, plus i quite like lidl for certain things

fob · 15/02/2006 22:49

fundamentally all supermarkets are bad for the community. it's best to support local growers and smaller retailers (fishmongers, bakers etc) however, lets face it, they are handy for binbags and tin foil and stuff. the co-op is the most ethical but the rest will bleed every supplier dry trying to obtain the most perfectly shaped apple etc..That said..Tescos is the worst of the lot. They're planning checkout divorces and wills you know. I know some of you might think thats not a bad idea.....

ShaysMummy · 15/02/2006 22:50

our tesco is always pretty good for being stocked. its our asda i can never get stuff coz its gone.

NannyL · 15/02/2006 22:56

What a great idea.... i do the shoping where i work and im BANNED from spending a single penny of their money in Tesco.

Only Waitrose and M&S who have much better animal / environmental policies will do!

I alsi hate tesco!

AllBuggiedOut · 16/02/2006 00:14

Loathe the place. Live 3 mins from their supposedly "flagship" store. Was in there looking for shoelaces and lightbulbs on Sunday. The 1st person I asked for shoelaces said "sugar?" (not a clue what I was one about) and the second told me, confidently, after a phone call to a colleague, that they didn't sell shoelaces then promptly walked me past them on the way to lightbulbs! Badly stocked, incompetent staff and parent and toddler parking full of lone middle aged men in large cars. Grrr

kitegirl · 16/02/2006 05:27

Thanks moondog for the link.

Among other shops, Tesco is almost singlehandedly responsible for the death of record stores in this country (eg Tower Records, Our Price...) . By selling cut price chart CDs as a loss leader, they have priced out our high street record stores, which means that if you want to pick up something that is not Now That's What.... or Shane Ward, your only chance is online. B*ards.

Gingerbear · 16/02/2006 05:37

We have
3 thriving bakers
2 good butchers
2 grocers
2 hardware shops
1 electrical shop
all in our small town. Why are they doing so well? Local council has blocked plans for one of the big 4 (or is it 5 now?) to build for years and years.Only Co-op and a small somerfield by way of supermarkets.
It can be a PITA though if you are trying to get hold of an artichoke on a Saturday tea-time.

Tescos are the pits wherever you go.
The staff are from grumpy, unhelpful planet .(Morrisons people, on the other hand, from Carlisle to Doncaster, are from the Happy chatty planet!).

Sponge · 16/02/2006 15:50

I always knew I hated Tesco, now I know why .

alliep30 · 16/02/2006 16:16

he's on telly moondog, you wouldn't know him!

edam · 16/02/2006 18:07

Does Shirley Porter still have shares in Tesco? Because that would be another reason to hate them. And I'm happy to add to the list...

alliep30 · 16/02/2006 18:27

sorry to be thick.. who's she?

edam · 16/02/2006 18:36

She's Tesco heiress - the daughter of the guy who founded Tescos but more importantly an evil old witch who wanted to be Maggie T. She was Tory leader of Westminster council in the 80s. Moved suspected Labour voters into asbestos-ridden flats in an attempt to gerrymander the election and keep herself in office - basically forced people to move around the borough to suit her electoral arithmetic.

When she was eventually brought to justice she used every trick in the book to wriggle off the hook. Took over a decade before Westminster saw even a penny of the millions she'd been fined - she fled to Israel and hid all her money, claiming she was down to her last £300k. Has eventually settled for a tiny proportion of what she owes.

Bet any poor sods who are killed as a result of her housing shenanigans don't see a penny of her money, either.

edam · 16/02/2006 18:36

'the' Tesco heiress

alliep30 · 16/02/2006 18:48

tesco heiress and bitch troll from hell. apologies for my ignorance. what a disgusting woman.

motherinferior · 16/02/2006 19:00

Tinker · 16/02/2006 19:01
