Babyprints - anybody tried them?

We're thinking about getting one of these done when the new baby arrives. Possibly ds's foot and the baby's foot side by side.

Has anybody had one of these done before? Was it easy and painless? Were you pleased with the result?

Website for anybody wondering what on earth I'm talking about!

I had mine done at John Lewis, very nice

I did a cast of dd's foot when she was a few weeks old, you have to put their foot in a bag and hold it then remove it rather hastly while it's hard but not too solid.
Scared the shit out of me as i thought she'd get stuck and ended up just panting 'it's alright, it's alright' with dd covered in plaster under the tap.
The imprint one is much easier!

Angeliz · 15/02/2006 20:49

Sorry, in a bag full of runny plaster that sets in about 30 seconds.

Tiggerish · 15/02/2006 20:50

I had John Lewis Imprints done for both of mine. They're fab but not cheap.

WestCountryLass & Tiggerish - how much were they? This company (they have a franchise very near us) quote from £60 for impressions, and £65 for solid casts, but I guess frames etc are on top of that.

Angeliz - how did your DIY versions turn out?

Imprints are £60 for a single hand and foot, fully framed with glass.

Angeliz · 15/02/2006 21:08

Well the cast wash a bit spoiled as i took her foot out too soon, but i've still got it and it needs 2. If dp had been holding her i think it would have been good.
The imprints are lovely. Just have them in a box tbh for me but they are cute. Also if you don't like it, you can do another one, The clay is soft for quite a while on that one so you have time to muck about.

WestCountryLass & Tiggerish - was this what you got?

I did my babies' myself.
Card,paint,one foot,one dh to help.

Had them framed with a tasteful mount which toned with the paints.
They both have pride of place in my living room.

Tiggerish · 15/02/2006 21:11

Yes! There is a choice of colours for both the prints and the frames.

Laura032004 · 15/02/2006 21:13

Glad you were all pleased with them I think we'll probably go for one. I just look at ds's foot, and it is so lovely, and will be quickly forgotten I'd love a permanent reminder.

Yes moondog, i have painted ones too, tbh dd1's are in a frame but dd2's not yet! DD1's hands are bright red on black paper.

SpikeMomma · 15/02/2006 21:54

moondog - what type of paint did you use - any?(knowing me, i'd dye my kids foot a dodgy colour for the rest of his days!)

WestCountryLass · 15/02/2006 22:58

Yes, that was what we got. I think it costs more for some of the other frames but we wanted beech wood. We had left foot and right hand done of both the kids. My DSs was done at 16 weeks and is half the size of my DDs done at 8 weeks!!!

moondog · 16/02/2006 14:43

Spike, just regular poster paints. The foot was alittle....odd for a while afterwards it must be admitted.

If I did it again, would use a palette of proper water colours,as the tones and shades are much nicer. Also less slimy and claggy than poster paints.
I would just paint the entire tiny foot thinly, then press down.
