I am just about to start a 2 week trial of extended wear contact lenses from spec savers. I have just had a sight test, and apparently I have astigmatism, which means they cost £25.00 per month..instaed of £15. can I get them cheaper, and what are they like?

I had a few dodgy pairs, which rubbed my eye and I kept getting eye infections. If I had a good pair I was fine. In the end I decided all the infections weren't worth it...

I doubt you'll get them cheaper than that, unless you buy them online. I would recommend frequent checkups with extended wear, for the reason above.

thanks - I don't intend to sleep in them that often....what sort of infections? and how do you avoid them?

It was more that I kept getting faulty lenses, which fitted badly and rubbed on my eye. My eye got sore, then got infected. My optician said that he'd had a lot more instances of eye infections like mine, although some people got on with them OK. This was about 3 years ago - things may have improved since....

If I got a good pair, I could sleep in them quite happily for a week or more. I used to take them out and clean them once a week.

There wasn't really anything I could do to stop the infections, it was down to the lens.

I used them for about a year until I got my eyes lasered. Once I got used to them (about two days) I liked them overall. Waking up and being able to see, and not having to fiddle around putting them in/out and cleaning them etc.
One optician told me to take them out for night a week but another told me to leave them in for the month as putting them in and out makes them more uncomfortable. They were both working at Spec Savers so not sure why the difference of opinion.

I'd usually have to apply drops in the morning and sometimes in the evening as my eyes could feel a bit dry.

I only got rid after a trip to NY. All the air conditioning meant by evening I was applying drops every few minutes and it was runing my trip.

Oh I also had astigmatism and found the costs quite high, but as they are relatively new on the market I didn't want to risk buying online and not having the aftercare.
Hope that helps.

piximon, I've got astigmatism, so I am using Toric lenses...last optocian didn't even offer me these, or diagnose astigmatism, so i was putting up with less than perfect eyesight. How was the lasering? I am thinking about that. Who did you use?
