We are looking onto these for our number 2, after using terry squares for the last one. What brands do people recommend? Cost is an issue...what works out as the most cost effective after buying covers, boosters etc etc?

I've used motherease and these are birth to potty and have been brilliant, without boosters for when they are little and with when they are a bit bigger. Nappies are about £8.50 each wraps about £7

I bought mine as a job lot off ebay washed but not used. I am thinking of selling mine now so see what others say about what they use, and if your interested will sort out a price.

I would recommend trying a few 2nd hand ones of different styles to see which suits your baby's size and shape, before investing in something that might not suit you.
You can get some good bargains on MN for sale, and the nappylady ads or ebay if you know what you are looking for.
I personally use meos and airflow wraps and tots bots with a fleece wrap at night, but also like fuzzibunz when out & about.

ditto for mother ease nappies with air flow wraps. never had a prob with them. they are great - one size so should save money when ds gets bigger. use bumbles for night time - excellent, bit big for day time use.

remember to see if your council do an incentive scheme. i got £50 to buy nappies with - really handy and no bother to claim.

another motherease one size fan here! and definitely motherease airflow wraps

our council also did incentives and a free starter pack worth £100! so worth looking into .

if you go with motherease get the stay dry boosters (think you can buy the nappy with the boosters)... i use these and that means i can dispense with liners
that said, when i do use liners in my tots bots i just bought some fleece from our cloth shop and cut it up!

Airflow wraps definitely get my vote. Motherease one size are good especially as you don't have to keep upgrading as they grow so more cost effective.

Forgot to say, bumbles have a fleece inner liner - so the poo just drops off easily. Also draws the wee away from the skin and traps it in the pocket area. i've never needed to change him during the night since he was a newborn. (he looked like a bumble bee butt at first though!).

i use fleece liners (and will use the stay dry liners when he's a bit older) in the ME nappies.

fleece is brilliant for liners - i didn't know how good it was until trusty mumsnet threads!

I use terries but everyone I've talked to says Motherease onesize are the best.

I use the ME airflow wraps (about £8 each, and you probaby need 4 of each size so £96 total for the wraps) and fleece liners which are great. The liners save you money over flushables. For boosters I use my muslin squares for nighttime, and put them in as a pad, then I am going to start using one size up sleepsuit to go over it as they don't fit too well! You maybe could use your terry squares for boosters?

I used terry squares for my first two, and have just bought these for my next (due any day). They are lovely soft terry, but obviously haven't actually used them yet!
I also got free prefolds from the council with my second - not great, but still worth having.

Thankyou everyone! So much info...I will probably look through it all when I am not so pregnant and a bit more sane! (only 2 1/2 weeks to go now...) We have borrowed some Cotton Bottoms in newborn from a friend, then will consider options after a few weeks/months. Our last child was born 4kg (9pounds) so I wont be buying anything in a small size!

With our terry squares (unfortunately left in Aust...we moved to UK 2 months ago) we used some more expensive covers at first (actually they we only about $4!) then gradually switched to those plastic pants with the elastic waist and legs that are really cheap (and the tell tale sign of bad mothering!). They worked fine for us and we had no nappy rash at all...would these work with shaped nappies?

What exactly are the 'wraps' anyway?

Thanks again for all the tips,
Astro

Longwaytogo...Thanks...Seems the mothereses are popular so I might be interested in buying. How many kids have yours been through and whats the condidtion like? I will have to chat to hubby about it first! My be interested in buying the nappies but not wraps...would this be a possiblity? (Not really sure what the 'wraps' are and they seem so expansive for a plastic cover...)
Thanks! Astro

The wraps are like the plastic pants, but made of a different material thats more breathable and feels more like fabric. Also you can wash them with the nappies (i've used both and thats a definite advantage). The ME airflow ones have poppers which means you can adjust the size at the waist and legs, and they also have a gap each side for 'airflow'! The rikki ones are velcro. Mine def. had less red bottom probs with the airflow wraps as opposed to the plastic pants. And they don't rustle!
