Skincare and cosmetic products for allergies?

My mum has recently been diagnosed with severe skin allergies, and as a result has problems finding even cleansers and moisturisers for her, but would also like to find a nice foundation and blusher etc. I was the beneficiary of all her vast Lancome stock of both skincare and make up as well as perfume (fab!!), and as its Christmas and her birthday coming up, I would really like to find some company that can cater for her, and I can spoil her. Its a real shame to 1) see her suffer with the allergies, and 2) to know that she would love to find something which would work and make her feel good again. I have had a brief look at websites but a personal opinion would be great. Thanks in advance.

Almay do Hypoallergenic skincare product and makeup

I don't have massive allergies, but do suffer from eczema on my face, which is consequently v. dry. I find that Clarins do a fab range for my sort of skin - the cleanser is called 'Extra Comfort' and it really feels like that.

I think you really need to go with her to try the stuff out. In my case, I know immediately if something isn't working for me because there's a stinging sensation when it goes on. Perhaps you could treat yourselves to a session at a Clarins studio (or similar type of thing). If you explain why you are doing it when you book it, I'm sure they'll advise you firstly on whether it's a good idea, and secondly on what products would be best.

Good luck - would be interested to know what you go for!

You could ring SpaceNK and ask them to find stuff for her to try. I agree with lalaa, she has to try it first. My skin isn't sensitive but there are times when it freaks out and flakes itself raw. I can't wear any makeup then, but have found the Jurlique daycream to be good for protecting my skin (the air hurts). BUT that was through trial and error -- she should go in and have someone sit down with her to try different things. Maybe a gift certificate or simply a "day on the house" (ie, give them your credit card number and say it's all on you?).

Thanks for all your advice. I am going to try out your suggestions, and have already been in contact with Jurlique who are sending me samples and a catalogue. The problem is she is so scared now of trying things because she did have a really bad time with her skin, but I think you are right, a bit of trying out and pampering is in order! And I can go too Thanks again. Any more ideas greatly appreciated though.

Whitewater, with the Jurlique products, it was only the day cream I could use when my skin was acting up. (I had the eye and face lotion also, but those weren't ok then. They were great the rest of the time, though.)

I've heard makeup with mineral pigments is supposed to be good for that kind of thing, but don't really know. I've heard of this company but they only ship within the US. My husband will be out there in a couple of weeks, so if you'd like for him to bring something back, email me.

Let me know how she gets on. It happens often enough to me that I'd like some info on what works. (Because when it happens I desperately need some makeup on but can't wear any...)
