'Front-lit' kindles.

I've just decided to get myself a Kindle Touch and now I see there's rumours of a kindle with a built-in light!

Lighted Kindle

So now I need to decide whether I can wait until Christmas!

ooooooooooohhhhh

I have a kindle 4 and find the e-ink really good to read in daylight, but I need a clip-on light in our living room at night because of the stupid eco bulbs the light is a bit dim. Having a sliding thing on the kindle to gradually increase the display lighting would be fantastic.

I can't understand why they didn't have lights in them from the beginning - seems an obvious feature to me Confused I don't really 'get' kindles though...

They don't have them at the moment because it's a replacement for a book - ie a book wouldn't be backlit - and backlighting is really hard on the eyes - I can read on my kindle for hours and hours (when I get the chance) but hubby has an ipad and I last about 5 mins - its just not as comfortable. The new one looks good because the light is reflected not backlit and still e-ink. I wonder when that will be out. I have a great lighted cover for my kindle that has a pull out light in the corner that runs off the kindle's battery - bloody expensive at £50 but I love it and hardly ever use the bedside light anymore.
I don't think I'd wait to be honest - I was so skeptical about the whole e-reader thing but I now don't know why i ever bothered with "real" books! I can take a whole library on a plane now!

I love reading in bed but I've just never got on with book lights. They either run out of battery too quickly, or else the light they give is too uneven over the book. I can't see how this would be much different using one with a kindle.

I would be prepared to wait if the front-lit kindle works well. Apparently the type just 'glows' gently and you can adjust according to darkness levels in the room.

My only reservation is not knowing whether Amazon are definitely going to get them out this year. There was some scepticism in the article about this.

I find the bedside table lamp is fine to read with a kindle, I prefer it to using a clip on light in bed.

meh ...

I have a kindle with a lighted cover (keyboard ) and the combo is fab. I can red in bed- the light is good and not too bright. DH can read his and not wake me if he's asleep. THe battery drain from the light is minimal. Ultimately for reasons of the slight extra weight or if the light breaks I still have a separate kindle too.

My dh gets annoyed with the sound of me turning pages in bed, never mind having a bedside light on, hence me not being able to read in bed at night for nearly 15 years. Sad

A lighted kindle could be the answer to my prayers! [dramatic]

my lighted cover suits me fine tbh.
