I am a total e reader virgin. having never owned one or used one. But my house is full to the brim with books and i thought that going digital might help with my book addiction. Also i am hoping that ebooks are cheaper than the hard copies therefore saving me money. The question is which to get. I have tried to research on the net but have been blinded by science. As i have never used one i don't know what are the desirable features to have. Please help me, what models would you recommend?

I love my Kindle (the graphite coloured one with a keyboard, and just wifi, not 3g) because when I got it the screen was the only one that looked just like paper and real print, and because of that it is fantastic for reading outdoors or in brightly lit rooms, because there's no glare. I think other competitors have copied their technology since so not sure whether the choice would be so clearcut now?

Keyboard kindle here too.

THe e ink is like reading on paper but easier to hold etc. I also use the "experimental" features a lot including the facility for audiobooks/MP3 and (controversially in our house) also like the text to speech (the kindle 4 doesn't have this) 0 OK i is like having stephen hawking read to you but when you are at a gripping bit and have to do dinner/get in the bath etc it is tolerable!

i have a new kindle (without the keyboard) was worried i'd get stressed navigating with the arrows searching for books but after 3 letters it's normally found what you want anyway. I love it, great in sunlight (unlike tablets), light enough to keep in my handbag all of the time so if docs running late etc i have something to read. Battery lasts forever (remember to turn wifi off when not downloading books as this makes the battery last much longer), only got wifi not 3g, jsut load it up with books before heading off anywhere (it holds up to 1400 books)

basically i love it and would recommend to any avid reader!

Boyfriend didn't have a clue what to get for my birthday, so he's getting me a kindle (the one without a keyboard). I'm getting really excited, but how do you keep your shiny new kindle safe when in your handbag? Any recommendations on cases and accessories?

i just have a neoprene (wetsuit material) one that i pop it in in my handbag to keep it nice, also helps as its water resistant (so if kids spill drink in your bag you have a few seconds to react :) got it off ebay for a couple of quid!

I have a kindle as well, just a basic one. I got it about 3 weeks ago and I am totally converted. I needed to have a cover that opens like a book though, I don't like using DH's kindle as his doesn't have a cover and I could hold it properly.

I have the basic Kindle which I love and this cover: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005SCRQPC/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details which I saw linked on here. I love it and it looks like real leather. I also have clip on light which I got from Tesco for about £2.

I use the kindle app on my iPad and iPhone.

Keyboard kindle here. Love the fact that its not backlit so my eyes don't dry out. Love being able to change the font size as my eyesight isn't what it should be. Also love the text to speech feature and the fact that it playes mp3s.

Keyboard Kindle here too but as I don't use the keyboard much and I want something smaller I am upgrading to the new Touch soon. Only ever read books on it; I don't use it to web browse etc (I have an iPad for that). I love the leather cover and integrated light though and use it every night to read in bed after DH is asleep.

I like the dictionary - I read quite a lot in French, and, although there aren't a great many words that I don't know, it avoids guessing - handy in case I actually want to use a new word.

qazxc, do you have your Kindle yet? Did you find a suitable cover?
