toy work tools, esp a screwdriver

Dd loves all kinds of worktools and wants to play with screwdrivers and allen keys all the time. Problem is I'm having difficulty finding any. I've seen lots of huge plastic work benchs that are both very expensive, to big for our house and quite flimsy IMO. What I really want is either a small work bench say about 30*15 cm with good sturdy tools in it or a work belt or something like that. Anyone any ideas or can reccomend anything? fisherprice used to do one (about 20 yrs ago ) as remenents are still at my mums and dd loved it.

TIA

Have you tried John Lewis? They do a little wooden set which my ds1 got for Christmas when he was about 3. It was played with a lot and is still in really good condition.

my ds was bought a fantastic wooden tool kit by grandparents for xmas. IT is a little wooden tool box with tools also wooden and things to hammer and screw etc. will see if i can find a pic of similiar.

I would actually not bother with the bench. My ds has a bench and a load of toold, but what he mostly does is 'screwdriver' all the furniture in my living room. He seems to know the bench is only a toy, but the furniture is real, IYSWIM.

tarantula · 08/02/2006 10:29

Good point colditz that is what dd is mostly doing too though she did enjoy hammering in the 'nails' on the workbench. It'd save room and money too. Right gotta decide on something now. HATE making decisions

Our ds has played with a £10 plastic tool set here we got from toysrus since he was around 18 months. It is great as tools very sturdy. Wouldn't bother with eitehr a tool bench or a belt - the belt just falls down!

You're right, tarantula, about the old Fisher Price ones - they're great. We got one off Ebay. There's one here - ebay
