Best baby slings for the large of nork....?

I have a ring sling ready to use, but can see me getting annoyed with the excess material all up by my shoulder... so was wondering if anyone wants to suggest anything else that works well if you have large norks to get in the way?

C'mon guys, I know you're out there... I have seen threads on it before (and no I'm not searching the archives, too fat and can't be arsed )

Afraid mine nestled in my norks. People commented. Things like 'ooh, she does look comfortable'.

In my experience, large norkage + baby sling = misery. I tried a friend's ring sling but couldn't get dd comfortable and couldn't get myself comfortable either. She just kind of hung beneath my norks, swinging in the breeze. If I hoiked her up, it wasn't comfortable for either of us. This was after I threw my Wilkinet out of the window as not only was that equally hopeless for large norkage, you need to be an octupus who has trained as a contortionist to be able to use it.

Have you tried a wrap sling?

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2006 13:23

I'm impressed with the "she does look comfortable" - I saw a woman a while ago, and my first thought was "can she breathe in there?"

Still on the lack of baby right now, so just planning ahead really...

I had a normal front or back facing carrier from babysrus. I only used it a few times as although it felt comfortable enough despite my ample chest, I would always wake up the next day with mastitis (was even expressing pus once or is that TMI?). I think the pressure was causing blocked ducts.

Anyway, I thought then that if I had any more children I would have a go with one of those slings that's a big piece of material like a hammock. Is that the same as a ring sling? Thought being able to swap sides occasionally might make it easier.

Okay, I have large norks - 40F if you're interested and used a lot of different slings with my last baby, and planning on doing the same this time ( due at end of month ). For a newborn, my recommendations from personal experience are a coorie from www.brightsparkslings.co.uk - this is the same principal as a ring sling, but is a one size pouch - you DO need to make sure you get the right size - Laura who makes them is very amenable and will swap and change if necessary. These have the same benefits of a ring sling - easily pop in and outable, but without all the excess fabric. I also use a wilkinet for a newborn, great for longer periods, walking, shopping etc. Later on, I can't fault the Ergo or similar ( suitable from about 5 months )

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2006 18:33

Hmmm... not sounding too positive for the large norks I looked at the coorie, but we'd need 2 different ones if DH was going to use it too. I think its going to be a case of see how I get on with the one I've got, and then go from there.

I am large in front too and had no problem with slings. I am wondering what ring sling you have when you mention lots of excess material by the shoulder? With toally unpadded slings, I cannot see how you would have excess. The unpadded ones are much more adjustable so your nork size should not matter. I also used wraps and others, but the ring slings were always my favourite. The ones I use are zolowear. www.zolowear.com but there are plenty of cheaper undapped ring slings out there.

I got a McLaren baby front sling from mothercare 3 1/2 years ago as someone had said in a magazine that they are better for those of bigger measurements and it did fit very nicely (most didn't do up!!) I'd send it to you but will be using it for db due in April, sorry. Not sure if they still do Mclaren ones, have a look online. dd was quite happy in there and well supported and it didnt pull on my back too much either.

Frizbetheexpansionset · 09/02/2006 08:48
