... a good coursebook for my new private student? She's upper-intermediate. I've heard of Cutting Edge & Headways but can't look at them without ordering them on amazon first. As they're a bit pricey, I'm being cautious. any suggestions? thanks

for just grammar-type stuff, Cambridge English Grammar in Use.
The CAE coursebooks are good even if the student is not working towards the exam.

I've got Swan & Murphy & tons of other excellent reference material, esp for grammar as it's my stumbling block but what I really need to find (& fast!) is a good coursebook. you know, like Headways, or Cutting Edge or Inside Out...

I ordered Cutting Edge from amazon. Cost an absolute fortune but I think it'll be worth it. Nothing worse for teacher/student than boring coursework! all those horrendous tapes with fake conversations & idiotic subjects. Shudder. At least as a private teacher I can choose my own stuff. Thanks all who helped.
