Baby monitors

Which one do you use?
I've heard that the ones which give temperature readings are a real pain in the summer as you can't turn the beeps off.

Analogue or digigtal?

And mains or batteries? And are the battery ones rechargeable?

Any comments gratefully received.

Hi there

We've done a mumsnet survey of the best baby monitors - you can find the results here

Hope this helps

melrose · 06/02/2006 16:44

YOu can turn the beeps off, there are some buttons inside the battery bit to turn off the alarms, and I think the temp bit is v useful especially when they are v little (I was paranoid about it being too hot!)

definitely rechargable, I have the Tomy one with the litte unit you can take out of the charging unit. V good in the summer if you are in the garden and can take it room to room, kept the charger by my bed so put it in there when we went upstairs (DS in own room at 2 wks ) Friend bought the cheaper battery one and says she has spent the difference in batteries!

Is that any help?

Thik ours is digital but not really sure

Hi Jaynex I can only comment on the one I used for both my ds and dd, it is now nearly 7 yrs old and still in good working order. It was just a cheapy from Mothercare it is the Tomy Mini Walkabout with night light only cost £25. I will say though both my friends bought the digital ones costing over £60.00 and they had terrible iterference in the area they lived, they both took them back and bought Tomy similar to mine.

Jaynex · 06/02/2006 19:07

Thanks so much for all the recommendations.
I'll go and have a look at mumsnet survey, thanks carriemumsnet.

I've had a look at the Which report list which was updated Aug 2005.

It has the Tommee Tippee Sure Sound as their best buy but it's not the one with the matress sensor.

I can't find out if it's rechargeable or not though.

Right, off to look at the mumsnet findings.

Thanks again,
Jayne x

We have the BT digital - found it very good, easy to use, no interference issues this one

dyzzidi · 06/02/2006 19:26

We tried four sets but they all had too much interferance.

We eventually got the BT ones and they are great. We paid £50 in boots for them and they even come with rechargable batteries. Mothercare do them as well.

Jaynex · 06/02/2006 19:35

Thanks blondeinlondon and dyzzidi.
I haven't even looked at the BT one.
Can you turn the temperature alert warning off?
A friend of mine had a monitor with this facility but took it back to the shop and swapped it for the next model down as the summer room temperature meant it wouldn't stop beeping and she couldn't use it.
I have only tried a philips one and the swishing and crackles drive me mad.

mine is one without the temperature.

Jaynex · 06/02/2006 20:01

Is it this one dyzzidi?
It doesn't say it has a temperature facility.

If not do you now what the model is called that you have?

Oh, I thnk I've managed to work it out.
The one with the temperature has the word 'Plus' at the end.
It's done well in the mumsnet and Which reviews.
I think it may be what I'm looking for.
Many thanks.

Dyzzidi,
out of interest. Which other monitors did you try?
