Cellar Conversion - Dino & Others!

We are planning to have our cellar converted. Its a typical London Edwardian house with quite a good cellar. We have contacted the London Basement Co who are very snooty and bad at returning calls but coming to see us this week. DH has also tried another called something like The Basement Gang (I'm sure its not exactly that but something similar) who are also bad at returning calls but less snooty.
Any recommendations for companies to do the work and any Dos and Don'ts????

Sorry Davros, don't get on mumsnet much at the weekend! I can put you in touch with the architect we used - we did everything through him.

Do you still have my email address? If not, post on here and I will email you (I think I still have your address).

That would be great Dino. I don't still have your email address as my Outlook account isn't working (it used to go through DH's office and its all change there!). So you won't have mine either I think...... I'll allow CATs so we can get back in touch.
Someone told me the other day about a cellar conversion where part of the floor of the kitchen, which is above, is glass . Lovely but I bet its expensive!

we live north of leeds and on our road 3 of us had our edwardian basements done. One used a local builder - took months and months and months...one used a local-ish basement conversion company with a flash logo and stylish sign ( basement4)- took months looked up its own jaxsy.....we used a specialsit damp people who whipped in - did the job and at half the cost we had anticipated. I say do that - you want it warm and dry and people who specialise in cellars and damp proofing are what its all about. Very pleased with ours

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for that 4b1p

Davros, the cost will depend on what you need done, really. Ours was expensive because it had to be dug out and underpinned. If you've got enough room down there already and don't need to dig out, it will be cheaper.
