We desperately need a new kitchen-everything from all new appliances to the floor tiles. It also needs to be re-designed so I can put the washine machine in there, which is currently in the extension.
Just wondered if anyone can reccommend a firm that will actually come and measure the kitchen aswell as fit it for us,please.
We haven't got loads to spend and I know MFI,B&Q & Ikea etc..do a fitting service, but I don't think they actually come and measure up for you.
Any advice much appreciated,thanks.

I think you take the measurments with you, then they put it all in on their fancy computers and design it on there for you.

Good Luck getting your new kitchen.

p.s Try Ikea website, you can download there kitchen design porgram and have a go yourself.

We are in the middle of getting a complete new kitchen too. B&Q _will come to your house, probably the others too (but not Ikea). It is a good idea to get at least two companies to give you plans, as you can get different ideas from different planners, then take the best to your favourite.

The Ikea kitchen design program isn't too hot - you can't have a washing machine or tumbler dryer in your kitchen in their world. Of course, to use it you need to measure your kitchen first, so not much help to Bub.

Thanks alot-that's really helpful.

Maybe I'll get a quote from B&Q,if they come to your house and see if I can find others too.
I really don't fancy measuring it myself incase I do it wrong, plus we might have a wall or two knocked down,so I'll be really confused.
Really haven't got a clue what we want-just don't want the one we've got.

we had a kitchen design company come to the house design the kitchen and then we used that design to go to MFI. I know its not fair to do it but it meant that we hada better designed kitchen than what the diy stores had designed.

Can you get a builder to do it? We had a new kitchen 18 months ago. My main bit of advice would be not to go to one of these small kitchen companies trading from industrial estates. We had a bloke in our house until 11.30pm trying to get us to sign a contract and he got quite shirty when we refused to budge. We pretty much had to ask him to leave the house.

My mum had B and Q out, I was there when they arrived, and there didn't seem to be the same pressure. She got a builder to do it for much cheaper though.

Magnet were pretty crap when we tried to buy a £15k kitchen from them. Obviously not interested in our business. I've heared Moben are crap as well.

Just don't go for black glossy worksurfaces, a total barsteward to keep looking nice as watermarks are a pita.

wcl hi jack - do you know of any good builders in Bristol At all?

Flossam · 07/02/2006 00:32

and bubaloo! hi, didn't see this was your thread. a new kitchen lovely! hope you are all ok! x

We bought our previous new kitchen from Ikea, it was fabulous and yes they measure it all for you. Recommend that you then get someone to recommend a good carpenter who will fit it for you and corgi registered for the plumbing etc. In total our new kitchen cost less than 5k and it was huge. B&Q quoted far more.
