Which hand blender?

Very fed up. Needed a new hand blender for ages and a few weeks ago got a fab one from Tchibo with stainless steel removeable end. Highly chuffed. Made soup with in and put end in wash, then remembered hadn't added cream. dried the end and put it back on and bang. Blue sparks!. I think the water had got inside it so when I put the two bits together it blew it. Very lumpy soup with odd blobs of cream. Most unappetising although it tasted nice.

Anyway took blender back to tchibo and got money back. Didn't see the point of replacing it if you can't wash it properly.

Now what. I chucked my naff old one away. This one was only £15 - don't want to spend a fortune but want a decent one too that I can take the end off to wash.

Any recommendations. Want to get it somewhere like argos really so I can take it back if their is a problem. So fed up with Tchibo

I have a braun one too. It was also about £25 but I fail to understand why it cost so much more than my last one which was about £12 and lasted years. (I can't remember who it was by. Morphy Richards perhaps?)

I have a braun one - seems fine - goes in dishwasher ok

I've had the basic model Braun one and used it heavily for 4 years. It's still going strong.

I've got a v.basic one from Asda - their 'own' brand, whatever that is called. Was less than £5. Has done well for the last 18m or so. However, I don't think you could put it in the dishwasher as the end which connects to the electric part is open, so water would get in it.

I tend to give it a quick swill straight after using it, and then a wash with a sponge later.

I too have a Braun. Don't remember how much it was. Very washable. Came with stick, whisk and mini chopper. It's starting to seem a bit ropey, after 4 years of intensive use, but that's pretty good for a small appliance I think.

If you want to be able to use it in hot soup, you need to make sure the "stick" bit is metal, whichever brand you go for.
